hard to start , fuel system leak.

Post by maglite1 »

hello again everyone , following recent engine re build the car is running sweet but yesterday when i went to go out in the car and today it struggled to start and turned over a good few times before it fired up , this only happenes when the car has been layed up overnight and once its been run it starts instantly , i just went to go out and again it turned over a good few times before it fired up so i opened bonnet and noticed a fuel leak on the pipes going to the injector rail .

on the top of the coil packs there are 2 fuel pipes that come from bulkhead and sit on top of coil packs with little cover over them they go to the injector rail , one of the pipes has a small white right angle with about 2 inches of pipe from the right angle then into the injector rail , the leak is on the pipe where it connects to the right angle it has 2 crimped wire clips , im thinking of going to halfords and getting 2 jubilee clips to stop the leak .

question is , when the car is layed up over night and the fuel system is loosing its pressure through this leak would it then make the car hard to start as it has to pull fuel through again , once its running say i go shopping and come back hour or so later it fires up perfectly , im not loosing any water and the tempriture is sitting stable just above 70% to 80% on a run , anyway off to halfords for some jubilee clips see if it sorts problem , thanks alan.

Sounds plausible, it's like starting the car after you've run out of fuel & filled up with a billy can!
Fingers crossed it is an easy fix :)

ive not gone for the clips yet as i wruggled the connection between the hose and the plasic right angle block and seem to have stoped the leak , im going to leave it for few hours and try it again , just hope its ok as i have to go get my son in morning again and its around 35 mile each way ide done motorway run to mums and car run sweet and tempriture was stable , ive checked the water level and its not lost any so my thoughts are down to loss of pressure in the fuel system.

I had this on my 1,9, I got as far as buying a wee check valve to go in the fuel line but one day the car mysteriously fixed itself...

its usualy not a case of losing pressure, air getting in allows fuel to run back to tank, this causes air in pump so pump struggles to prime and pump fuel.
