HELP NEEDED!! SERVICEBOX HELP

Post by marco2002 »

Hi Everyone

I need a little bit of help.lol. The ongoing saga of the snapped bolt on the rear roll bar bush continues. To cut a long story short theres only 4mm of thread protruding from the hole where it snapped off. Even though i soake the bolt for about 3 days it was no good. A friend of mine said he might be able weld a nut on the end of what was left but he looked at it today and said its too near to the fuel tank to use a welder and theres not much room underneath.

I've decided to have a go at drilling it out may use a set of these left handed drill bits that you can buy.

Can anyone who has access to Peugeots Servicebox tell me if it gives dimensions for the roll bar bolt nearest the front of the car on the drivers side( the one that you can't get to without either dropping the fuel tank or disconnecting the fuel filler pipe and the breather hose).

I'm particularly after the length of the bolt so i know when to stop drilling! Peugeot wanted to
supply a bag of 20 bolts but i'll go to the nut and bolt shop instead works out a lot cheaper!!
The bolt itself looks like its an M10 probably a high tensile. I phoned the local peugeot dealer and they weren't forthcoming with any info. Just the usual sorry mate all we have is a part number? Surely they have the servicebox at their disposal to look things up. Maybe they just can't be bothered?

Anyway its a W Reg(2000) 406 hdi 110 Gtx. VIN=VF38BRHZExxxxxxxx. I'm going to have to get this done soon as its been laid up since Sunday and this weekend is the only weekend i've got off. The other car i'm using will have to come off the road soon as the tappets need doing sounds like a sewing machine. lol

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thanks
Marco

Looks like there's 3 studs with nuts and a bolt, this what you're talking about?

DIAM 10X150-55 (I think that's 10mm dia, 150mm length and 55 is the thread, or should that be 5.5? :?

I think you're going to end up dropping the tank :(

cant really help with the service pox thing but as for the tappets, chill your boots young man that will be the famous HDI chattering injectors i reckon, not your tappets, i believe they are non adjustable or if you do it wont make any difference.

Have a look at this it might answer some questions for you,
as for the bolt good luck with it mate and dont let the bastard grind you down.

I think the length would be 55mm = 2.25 inches.
150mm is 15cm = 6 inches.

I never know what they're going on about tbh, hopefully a hardware shop would have a better idea. Yeah, 6 inches would be daft but even the two-and-a-quarter seems a bit long. So 150 must be the thread, I don't think that'll be TPI...

Thanks for all your help. I think i'll go with the 55mm for the length of the bolt. I'll have a go over the weekend need a set of decent drillbits.

I was talking about the tappets being noisy on the 106 diesel which i'm driving just now. My 406 is a peach compared to the 106 but seeing as it does 60mpg i can put up with the noise! lol. Have to wait another week until i can get it done

Thanks All

I think SB is describing this as a self-tapping screw - numbers might mean something then, but I can't seem to find a guide.......

Hi everyone

A friend had a look at the snapped bolt today and decided it was too risky to try and weld a nut on whats left of the bolt as its quite close to the fuel tank and access underneath is quite tight. So i've bought a set of drill bits and an extractor set. I'll let you know how it goes. I tried looking for some left handed drill bits today but none of the hardware shops have them in stock. i was going to try and drill the bolt with one of those first and see if it came out before using the extractor.

Thanks for all your help so far.

Another update on the snapped bolt!

Had a go with the drill and easyout. Didn't go very well. Drilled a hole out okay but using the easyout couldn't seem to get enough torque to wind the bolt out and to be honest its in a real awkward place to get underneath even with all the fuel filler and breather pipes out the way. So i've decided to get the expert in mobile mechanic said he could do it if i got stuck lol.
