the birth of a healthy baby is the best present you can have, when that child is born all material items just seem so unimportant
my daughter is now 9 weeks and we wouldn't change a thing
and GOOD LUCK with everything

To be honest the 'big event' is more about the baby imo and the best present you can give is your own time and effort.

I got my missus the usual flowers and stuff but I've never really heard of any gifts for the mother. Whatever you buy will soon get forgotten about in all the other stuff going on.

If I had my time again and was pre-expectant I'd come home with an enormous stock of new-born nappies and baby cleaning stuff as I think this would be far more use and is one less thing for her indoors to worry about, it's not romantic but then again having babies is not romantic either.

I'm only just getting to know my wife again after 14 years of kids because they don't need us anymore and me and her are spending more time together  (haven't progressed onto the 'holding hands' stage yet but it won't be long :o )

Probably the best so far. Just be there when your needed, remind her how much you love her and remember any classes you have taken together. It's important that you remain calm and help her with her breathing etc.

Once she's given birth. Naturally congratulate her on giving birth and let her bond with the littlen for a while. Obviously she'll be shattered so she'll need to get some rest (you'll see as she starts falling asleep with the littlen her arms lol), so go and bond with your newborn child.

Don't be afraid to show your emotions, it nearly killed me trying to be a "man" and not crying. In the end I was probably crying more than she was.

Bask in the ephoria of having a mini-you.

Take an obligatory snap of mum and baby in arms, then get someone to take a pic of you and baby and then finally upload them so everyone can see ;)

Congratulations in advance mate! It's an amazing experience I assure you!

she will be feeling tired and worn out and it will be hard work when she gets home so get her a pamper day at a local spa.

In the old days a woman would stop, squirt out a baby, pop it in her back-sack and carry on working 8) 8)

Reminds me of...

THE MEANING OF LIFE
-------------------

THE MIRACLE OF BIRTH

PART 2

THE THIRD WORLD

Yorkshire

[A northern street. Dad is marching home. We see his house. A stork
flies above it, and drops a baby down the chimney.]

Dad: Oh bloody hell.

[Inside the house. A pregnant woman is at the sink. With
a cry a new-born baby, complete with umbilical cord,
drops from between her legs onto the floor.]

Mother: Get that would you, Deirdre...

Girl: All right, Mum.

[The girl takes the baby. Mum carries on.]

I guess I should respond to the OP so, although I've not been here but I'm thinking, if it's your first, you could get her a big stick to beat you off with if you ever go near her again...

All the best to all three!

Big stick would be better than allowing her anywhere near your nuts :D

I'm afraid you're in the wrong place for serious

As others have said, I think anything you buy would be pretty much immediately forgotten. Remember Christmas when you were a kid? Did you really care about anything other than your main present?

If you can afford to put a few quid away book yourselves a holiday for a few months down the line. It will really help for her to have something to look foward to when the baby blues kick in.

Also not forgetting... :cheesy:
