406 in need

Post by FarmerPug »

I drove past a 406 sitting on the hard shoulder today, is this owners club big enough that 406 owners help eachother out when they break down like the caravan club or should i just have ploughed on as i did which i believe is what the law states. and does anyone wave at other 406 owners when driving along, does anyone wave back?

I think you're supposed to laugh and point at the stricken 406'er (especially if it's a V6)

Waving at other 406'ers could get a bit tedious, perhaps a knowing-nod would suffice :D

I saw a *really* hot woman driving a 406 once and that was kinda nice, would've broke the ice too being able to discuss all the electrical problems we'd had

I'd like to help other 406 owners here but it seems like a 2nd hand car is just a car. A few months back I spotted the gunmetal grey D9 estate I used to see in the supermarket car park a couple of years back, the one I looked at and thought "I gotta get a D9!" Anyway, after all this time there it was. Covered in dents and scrapes :x There was a space next to it so I parked along side, facing the same way. I was about to take a picture when I saw the owner heading towards it, I wondered if he'd say anything but he didn't seem to notice me or my car, so I gave him to polite "dobar dan" (good day) and he looked at me like I'd just crawled out from under a rock :( He got in his car, started it up and drove away without giving me or my car another glance. Peasant

This 406 did have a woman in its drivers seat, is there many women owners of the 406 on this site for that matter, or is the 406 the most manly car in the world.
As for every second hand car just being a car, yip thats the problem right now with the 406 its still a bit too common, drive a fiat panda and other owners are as shocked as you are when you see another one.

even better back when i had a citroen visa, and some of you are probably rushing to google to see what that is, well its just a square 2cv with an xud engine. I never met a single one like it, surely there were c15 vans but they didnt count i was the only person driving a visa, and sold it for a nice profit, the only thing was when selling it in the paper i put it in as an AX.

Yeah I think the 406 is still too common a car for conversation to be struck up between owners at the petrol station. I swear, I see a minimum of 20/30 a day. My 405 got to the uncommon stage, were 406 owners approached me at petrol stations wanting to know how many miles were on it/was I thinking of selling/where did I get it/would I be getting another one etc.. My 405 was a 96' model (when Pug stopped making them) so it was 12yrs old when it was getting attention. Using that theory and applying it to the 406 which ended production in 04' it will be another 6yrs before the majority of 406's are dead and conversations at petrol stations will take place.

But then again having an executive is something worth starting a conversation about, i dont see too many of them. But one thing is for sure golf drivers will never strike a conversation up at a filling station, nor will 3 series, or a4 drivers.

I saw another modded 406 about 2 weeks ago and gave the driver thumbs up and got one in return. He tried to chase me along the roads round here, but I drive them everyday and he didn't stand a chance! The only other time I'd wave would be if I were to see another 406 the same colour as mine, other than that, they're still far too common. That said, I've only ever seen 1 other 406 the same colour as mine since I got the car. When I was out in my 309 though, every other 309 I saw I used to flash and wave and the other owners used to flash and wave back usually. I've still got quite a few mates that I met over 10 years ago due to the 309.

10 year+ motors all wave to each other, its pretty good to be honest, a real feeling of
"ha ha you bought one too, bet its costing you a fortune as well" or the equivalent in Polish

You know it pains me to say it, but the Omega owners' forum is much, much bigger than this one. In addition to usual gremlins, they've got people stripping down engines, hand-building Lotus Carltons or converting cars for drifting on a daily basis. And when you have a problem - including road-side breakdowns - they'll say 'ah yes, there's three members living in your area, one of them'll be along to help you in a minute'.

I have not the slightest idea why the Vauxhall Omega should be so damned popular. I hate almost everything about it.*

Its rear wheel drive, and better looking and the froggy granada. The best one is the NSUR080 which had a rotary engine, owners would not only wave but hold out whatever amount of fingers was needed to display how many new engines the car had recieved.

I always thought the Slag's problem was bad coolant causing corrosion but, looking on Wiki, the engine was intrinsically flawed. Wiki also says the reason they didn't fit the Rubber V8 in there was they couldn't make enough of 'em:
The no-fit story is probably a myth as Rover, also owned by British Leyland, simply could not supply the numbers of V8 engines to match the anticipated production of the Stag
So basically, don't tool up to make an existing and proved engine to which your parent company already owns the rights to, design your own piece of junk from scratch and tool up to make that, thereby costing the company's owners at the time (i.e. us) needless millions more than necessary and providing an otherwise great car a quick route to the scrap heap
