Cill seals
I bought a pair of new cill seals with 10 clips for £20 off fleebay. But i went there to pull the old ones off which look quite raggidiey and frail, but no they are on there good and strong. So i used a screwdriver to pry it out, and as these things go the screwdriver sliped and entered my hand, causing the f word to be shouted quite loud and then i leaked some red fluid. So anyhow what way do i take off the cill seal, should i take the opportunity to waxol into them holes and is any adhesives needed for the reapplication?
Re: Cill seals
i would have thought a pair of pliers would be better for the job,it wont hurt to waxol them as they can fill up with water.

Re: Cill seals
and do the seals themselves need some form of adhesive to keep them tight against the body, or is the clips enough, and will the pug dealer do a few more?

Re: Cill seals
On the topic of rust i was speaking to a paramedic (my dad) who drives one of the rapid response veichles, at the moment he isnt happy because the skoda octavia scout is away getting a driveshaft fixed and he has to drive a ford focus estate, theres rust all over the old thing, especially round the important stuff like front bumber mounts, and suspension strut towers. And this focus is an 02 the same age as my 406 so ford doesnt pay as good attention to rust proofing as pug.
Re: Cill seals
are newer pug not galvanised?

Re: Cill seals
None of them are galvanised, it's some kind of special paint.

Re: Cill seals
i always thought they were galvanised, i had an old manual for a 309 which showed it being dipped into a big tank of silver paint, and then all the layers of paint it got. Even if it isnt galvanised peugeot does a good job of it, better than mercs of the 90s

309s where galvanised but not 406 as far as im aware.
but some of the galvanising was a bit hit and miss as they still rusted usully a round the fuel tank .

Re: Cill seals
do you mean the 309 rusted round the fuel tank, they were hit and miss the red one i had was spotless, the white one was a rotten heap the front suspension struts shot up when i drove over a bump in the fields?
Why wouldnt peugeot galvanise the 406, it doesnt seem to rust too bad anyhow whatever thing they have done.

Re: Cill seals
I was under my car and the only rust was the exhaust which fell off at the bit where it met the backbox, the rest is solid, and waxoled now. No rust on the bodywork, apart from a bubble under the front bonnet which i sanded off and painted with the touchup kit. With that level of rust your car must have been near a bit of sea water more than once

Re: Cill seals
All the rust underneath has been sorted now. If I was to keep the 406 I would strip everything back and waxoyl it and get the bad bit of welding on the sill sorted. But older D*'s seem to suffer with tin worm?406executiveHDI wrote:I was under my car and the only rust was the exhaust which fell off at the bit where it met the backbox, the rest is solid, and waxoled now. Re: Cill seals
Well mercedes benz in their decade off work 97-07, made plenty of rust buckets look at the w202 i near bought a c220 CDI last christmas (i do a bit of buying and selling if anyone wonders how i have had so many cars), it was only £400 from my cousin and well specced, but rust was everywhere; round the door handles, the wheel arches, the bonnet, and the cills, mechanically perfect as youd expect with a merc, the interior was mint, every single button worked and still the body was ruined with rust, and actually the car was the second w202 my cousin owned the first one he bought new was worse still, and merc replaced it under warranty.
But rust just aint nice, apart from on british leyland cars they just suit a bit of rust on them.
