2.2 sri TPS issue

Post by no2lurch »

Not sure which section this is best in - electrical or engine, so please move mods if needed.

since i've had the car (2.2 sri estate w reg) very occasionally, its gone into limp mode and egnine mgt light has come on with the error code stating TPS manfunction.

the fault is always reset by turning car off and pumping the accelerator pedal, and restarting. seems fine after that. i reset the mgt light too at the same time.

now my question is, does the TPS need replacing, can it be removed and cleaned or something else to do with it?

any suggestions would be great.

Pss, can't be bothered to move it

I don't think the tps can be cleaned (maybe someone else will correct me here), perhaps you could very carefully drill a small hole in it and spray some switch cleaner inside.

A new one is.... 75 fecking quid! :frown:

1920 AK, also on... feck me, everything, seems like it's a very common part - it's on HDis including early 2.2s,

Drive by wire, eh? On the Omega I've always found the position of the accelerator pedal to me more of a suggestion to the ECU than an actual governor. Give me mechanical any day!

The best I can suggest for cleaning it, is to remove it and pump it full of electrical contact cleaner (available in aerosol form from Maplins) via the hole while turning it until it dries out, then re-fit.

If that doesn't work too well (and it probably won't), get yourself to a scrappy and have a hunt for another. They're extortionately expensive from dealers...
