I would say the petrol has stripped and locked the lift pump, you'd need to get it out and see what's going on with it. Can you hear it buzzing/humming when you put the ignition on?

HDi's are self-priming and are usually a doddle to pull the fuel through the system.

Another update guys: I lifted the back seat out and the lift pump is lifeless. Hit it a few dings with the hammer to see if I could shock it into life but no joy. Just home from work, going to remove it from the tank later and have a tinker with it.

Cheers for the help, as usual you guys were spot on with the diagnosis 8)

I hope that's your culprit Country' its an easy enough fix if it is though, if you need a fresh one its not too expensive and probably needed doing soon anyway (just keep telling yourself that)

Good luck Bud. 8)

Another update: Got the lift pump out and a couple of taps with a hammer later it sprung into action. Got it all connected up and a couple of engine turns later, she started up perfect :D Got all the tools packed away and set off for home with my dad following in his 405. Got about 4 miles down the road and lost power. Pulled over and tried the ignition, no noises from the lift pump  Alas, a tow rope was produced by my dad and the 405 towed me the rest of the way home. Got the lift pump out again and after several taps with the hammer it did start, however only the once. After turning the ignition off and on again it didnt work and since there's been nothing. I dismantled the lift pump unit and connected the pump directly to a 12v batt, not a noise out of it. I guess its time to part with some cash :frown:
