Hey everyone.
Well I'm officially back on my knee's grovelling after ditching my trusty 406 for a shitty Ford.
After finally paying £900 on top of the £2650 I paid for the car to fix the 4 faulty injectors, I still have an oil leak that appeared from no where and now... I have a built in swimming pool in my passenger floor wells.
I've had my eye on the 407 for a while now and I've found a nice one..
Has anyone had much experience of these models?
I'll probably register on the 407 owners club but I thought I'd come here first.
Cheers ;)

Re: 407 2.0 HDI 136?
I have one of these, had it just over a year, bought it with 23,000 miles on, now done 40,000.
The only problem I have had is a faulty ABS sensor done under warranty a few weeks ago.
My wife loves this car, it has bags of power and is very comfortable and superb to drive, sticks to the road like glue.
Fuel consumption is the same as the old 406 HDi we had unless you floor it, then it gets a little thirsty (over 85 on motorways).
I heard all sorts of bad things about these, but to date everything is fine, including ball joints which have been known to fail early.
Mine is 56 reg, I think the early ones were the troublesome ones.

Re: 407 2.0 HDI 136?
My peugeot mechanic (who refuses to touch my ford) said not to touch them
I'm dreading trying to fix the Ford but I'd be loosing possibly £2000 within 3 months of owning the car due to either depreciation, it being shite or dealers being greedy.
What's annoying is that the car is beautiful on the outside and apart from a dodgy noise that might be due to the timing chain, the engine is great. It flies like sh*t off a stick.
Just at the moment, it stinks due to being wet and foisty, it leaks oil everywhere I go and I'm losing all confidence in it.
Since I well over 1500 miles a month in it, I don't fancy getting 40 miles from my girlfriends again and breaking down.

ive had my 407 nearly 4years now and apart from a balljoint(known issue) and 2 rear abs sensors (again known issue),mines been fine as have lots and lots of them.there have been a few triublesome one but to be fair to them not many really.
Why not join www.407owners.com and have a browse around,we are a friendly lot and you'll recognize a few from here as well, that goes for you as well jasper.
Could Also try PM ing Turbolag from here as he did a reliability survey for a few peugeot sites 'cant remember which ones tho
'
as with all things mechanical theres well looked after one's and not so well looked after ones so get all the info you can first.
I went to trade mine awhile ago and looked at all the alternatives, the only thing i liked was the same as mine but newer so no point in trading.
again have a look at 407owners and see what you think

Didn't yours need a new clutch at 30k? Or was that practically every other 407 sold?trem1 wrote:ive had my 407 nearly 4years now and apart from a balljoint(known issue) and 2 rear abs sensors (again known issue),mines been fine as have lots and lots of them

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

A neighbour of mine a polish man owned a 406, a green D9 in the really basic spec where there isnt even climate control. But he seemed to like it, but now hes driving a Black 407 and he says its a great car but did say it doesnt give the economy of the 406, i never asked what engine its a hdi though.e

being NI its probably the 1.6 which is far more popular there because of taxes or something.some lads are getting very good mpg ie:50+ with the 1.6406executiveHDI wrote:A neighbour of mine a polish man owned a 406, a green D9 in the really basic spec where there isnt even climate control. the tax system over here is basically the same as the uk, down south or the rebublic of ireland the tax seems not to like big engined cars 1200euro for a jag xj6.
