I seem to have missed most of this one too :( Jezuz, what a pain in the bum :( Sounds like you've been given the run around by two garages there and ffs what sort of garage just lets a car sit in their yard for two months? Either they fix it or admit defeat, that just smacks of yanking your chain because they saw the look of desperation in your eyes :x

I think it's obvious that the most common lift pump failure is the brushes wearing out and only in rare cases does it break up and fill the fuel system with iron filings, then there's a sodding great filter in the way of the HP pump.

Leaking where? I think you'd have noticed this when you opened the bonnet and got blinded with diesel.

Odds are it's not the HP pump but I can see how you reckon it's time to cut your losses. Best to leave it in one piece and take stuff off as and when. I've not got much idea on prices (ebay's your place), I reckon stuff like the leather should go pretty quickly but the rest of it might take time. You probably won't be able to sell any of the engine management. Well, not if you're honest about why you're breaking it anyway

Btw you still didn't say how old it is :?

v reg 00, phase 2/face lift.

The car has a brand new lift pump but still no improvement, frankley i dont believe their theory of the iron filling blocking the injectors, because sometimes it will run for ten minutes, if the injectors were blocked thats that, i cant see them clearing themselves. May have one last look when back on the drive and then if no luck i will break it for parts.

Hi Cov , i may well be pissing in the dark but did you change the lift pump yourself or
did the garage do it ? i only ask as the garage you have been dealing with sounds more
like a circus full of clowns and if they know about the tapping the tank trick and you have
not seen the old pump you may still have it in there !!! just a thought

well my cousin bought and fitted a new pump in the tank when it first went wrong. Although both garages have said whoever fitted this lift pump forgot to fit a seal?

If you are able to it may be worth while as a last resort taking the pump out
looking at it and re-fitting , before you break it ....

Perhaps monitor the voltage going to the pump...

Try leaving the filler cap off, just in case the vent's blocked.....

right tomorow is the day. Its either going to work or be broken. Bit annoyed that the garage allowed the brand new battery to become immensely flat.
