CB radio

Post by FarmerPug »

Is it possible to fit a cb into the 406 in a way that it doesnt look obtrusive, and is there many still on it, and like a mobile phone is using a cb illegal while driving.

Probably, glove box? Down the side of the centre console? Depends how big it is I guess, they must be tiny now if they kept up with everything else.

I doubt it, time was it was full of kids but, since mobile phones & the Internet I hear it died a death. You might actually have some range now.

Of course it is!

CB's definatley havent evolved with the rest of technology they are all about the same size, i have a midland rig seems to be quite full of buttons, and i wired it up to a car battery, after a bit of drinking a friend used it and said black hawk down, but there was no reply, perhaps it was because i had it in a garden shed but the lack of people on it is sad, cb as a communication method seems much better thing than facebook or poo such as that.
The Unit is about the size of a radio, my glovebox is already taken with duran duran, and rod stewart cds i thought there was some sort of slot somewhere but then i suppose when designing the 406 they designed the dash so there would be space for a repmobile nokia and not a CB.

I've got a midland one (I forget the model) in my 4X4, absolutely invaluable when off-roading, and I've also got a handheld unit (Midland 42) that came with a car kit device that replaces the battery compartment to plug it into the fag lighter and attach an external ariel, giving it much better power and range. That's what I'd use in the car if the fancy took me, stick a decent ariel on a mag mount and it's easily as good as a "proper" one, unobtrusive and the whole lot can be whipped out for safekeeping or transfer to another car in seconds. The only people you'll find on there these days are truckers and 4X4s though, oh and the occasional wierdo

Ha ha i had one of those too

CBs are really popular out here now though, but like everything else they are at least 20-25 years behind the rest of europe on trends here so its no surprise, here they are used by all the drivers who stick some mileage in and apparently they use them to tell others about speed traps and traffic jams, shame my polish is not up to using one yet as the equipment is all modern stuff and really cheap here too :(

Oooh, I'll catch you in the black hole then

You need to polish up your... Why not get one and listen in? I'm sure you'll soon work out what the Polish for "smoky taking pictures" is, the rest can only help you learn :cheesy:

I'd like to see what a modern rig looks like, I'd imagine all they are inside is an ic, an amp and a crystal. Perhaps not even the crystal...

do you want to have a look at a selection of modern rig, because apart from backlit lcd displays and bullsh-onet acronyms about noise reduction they havent changed a bit here is the best website i know of for them, if they to get properly modern they should be another sub function of a radio with a handsfree system and the microphone for the cb would be in the same place as that for a phone but technology hasnt evolved that far yet, and it wouldnt take much to get there the technology exhists just some company needs to put it all together in a radio:
