Xmas Working
We got our Xmas working days given to us last night. Our shift normally runs from Sun night (5pm - 1am) to Thurs night while the night crew starts Sat night (12-8am) & the day boys start on the Sun morning (8am-4pm).
This year with Xmas day falling on a Saturday we get... no days off!
Finish on Thurs as normal, then back in for Boxing Day. P**sed off or what!? Still feel really bad for the other shifts though. Days have to come in Boxing Day morning while the Nightshift have to go to sleep Xmas Day because they'll have to work that night. & no offer of any extra pay whatsoever.
Makes me wonder why we as a country put up with so much crap from our employers. The French are rioting about having to wait till they're 62 to retire instead of 60 & we've had it set at 65 for years now!
Rant over now.

Re: Xmas Working
The french seem to riot about anything at all, over there stiking seems to be a national sport. But any of us with jobs should be glad they havent dissappeared with these cuts, though i understand why thats a bad time to end up working.

Feel for ya
I think everyone deserves to have minimum of xmas and boxing day off
I used to be in retail, and we were allowed an extra day off, so we just worked our rotas to have extra time at xmas or new year.
I always went with new year ( can't find a drinky drinky smilie

Re: Xmas Working
That stinks, and it's a kinda "well it's not our fault xmas is on a Saturday".
I hate working near or over xmas (last year only had xmas day off and even worked new years day) I said 'never again' that time. It is the only time of year when everyone is off and work is supposed to quiet down enough for us to enjoy a well earned rest.
I suppose most will just finish on Fri 24 Dec this year and go back Mon 3rd Jan? just 5 days off really whereas some years you can get 7 or 8 days off.

Re: Xmas Working
Few years ago I used to happily work my 12 hour shifts over xmas... Usually putting in a few extra hours and sleeping at work to avoid extortionate taxi fares (no driving license back then). I'd not actually be at home for a week or so...

I wish I could say the same but being self employed you have to take the work when you can get it!adamr8965 wrote:I Break up for christmas 17 dec, go back to work 4 Jan. I will not work any of the christmas period will young children.

When your kids start asking if Daddy is dead? you know it's time for a day off
My life seems to be an endless cycle of work, sleep, work, sleep............
I wish I could be like steve earwig and stroll around my estate without a care in the world and wearing a knowing smile on my face

Re: Xmas Working
I'd refuse to work on xmas. I think it's stupid that some companies insist on people working on bank holidays with no extra pay or time in leu.
One of my mates gets forced to do sh*t loads of extra hours because people are on holiday and he doesn't get any thanks, time in leu or any extra, he just gets normal wages.
When I worked for Orange a while back, they asked me to work on a bank holiday and as a result, they had to pay me 3 times the hourly rate I was getting paid normally.
Now I work for a very small company, we pretty much work to other peoples holidays and the people we normally deal with get something like a month off over xmas. So we break up a day before xmas and then go back when everyone else does, after new year.
That said, I might have to do some work from home, oh the joys.
