What do you use copper slip on?

Post by Bailes1992 »

Bought a massive tub of copper slip yesterday as I will be servicing the breaks on the Focus in the next week or two
Now I'm thinking of other uses for it, wheel studs, hubs etc.

What do you use copper slip for? Is it worth a dab of it on the spark plug threads?

My father always use to put it on the wheel mounting surfaces (either the wheel itself or the hub) as it stops the wheels sticking to it when you try to take them off again.

Don't get the issue with the steels on the 406. But on the focus I usually end upo smacking the wheel with a mallet.

i use it on earth points.
take out the bolt, clean up the metal under it and apply the slip to the bolt thread, works a treat!!

if you have metal valve caps, a smear of vaseline on the threads stops them corroding on

On my amateur mechanics nightclass the teacher put copper slip on the back of the pads and as wuawe said, on the hub where it will be in contact with the alloy.

He said not to use as a general lubricant because the copper bits will get embedded and wreck all round it!

The reason I bought it was for behind the pads because I hate break squeel. A 150ml tube of copper slip was £5.99 or a 700g pot was £6.99  BIG MANLY POT THANK YOU :D

Definitely, that's the best use of it for sure! 8)

Just don't use it as lubricant for other uses

I use it on pretty much all bolts that will have to be removed again at some point, i.e. all suspension bolts, all brake bolts, the caliper slider pins, discs to hub face, disc to wheel face, all droplink ends are covered in copper grease before being fitted to make sure they come off easily again. Basically, if it's got a thread, it gets copper greased!
