I think there was a guaranteed resale value for the C6s agreed when sold new. Hallidays up near Bushmills had a couple.

There is a fella in Newtownabbey taxis in one, more glamourous than an Octavia!

Unfortunately they didn't sell here because the sheep here hate big cars that aren't German, they'd rather have a bloody 316i.

Yes there seems to be a copying sort of theme over here, the a4 diesel bearing a rs4 badge seems a popular choice for the sheep

Isnt there a 318d for the cheapskate who wants a bmw badge.
Golf diesels with r32 badges and oversized wheels
BMW 520d with M badging
Diesel Mercs with AMG kits

Why is it the german cars which are suffering from this case of being wrongly badged who is doing it i dont think every a4 driver has been on ebay buying rs4 stickers and a bodykit with a flimsy mesh grille that chips paint and gets big holes caused by stones. So over here a nice v40 saloon is a sure way to get what it says on the boot a 2 litre diesel and thats it.

No way!
My 02-plate HDi 90 with 86k cost £5k five years ago, and I reckon it was cleaner than that (not any more  )

(In hindsight, I would have been better with a 110 as I do mostly motorway and good A-road.)

There's a 316d if you're absolutely desperate for that badge. Complete poverty spec interior.

A 320i in tax band F, same as my 406.

Them C6s have to lose a LOT of money before I could justify buying one over a 520d or a 318d :(

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

when i was in paris on holidays theres tonnes of them about, good for once to see them more than a 5 series.
They've always been quite patriotic over in France. Remember the Renault Safrane? Hardly sold over here, but first time I went to Paris I saw loads of them. Peugeot 605s & 607s, Renault Vel Satis etc. all sold really well in France, but bugger all over here.

& the thing with BMWs/Audis/Mercs is solidity & longevity. Not too sure about the latest generations, but I bought my Dad an X plate 523i with 98k on the clock (Fathers Day & 60th Birthday) & driving it home I started to miss my old Beemers. The solid clunk of the door shutting, the absence of little knocks & squeaks on anything over than smooth tarmac. My 406 of the same age (much as I like it) just doesn't have that same quality feel. After all - look at the amount of early 90s German luxury motors that are still on the road. Not too many 405s or Cavaliers etc left now & it certainly isn't down to the German cars being looked after better. In my experience, most of the people that can afford cars like that abuse them a lot more than those of us that scrimped & saved for our Fords & Peugeots.

How many company directors would you see out polishing their S Class on a weekend?

Probably have a chaffeur in the s class, i like old mercs there is an undeniable solidity you dont get in many other cars, and although ive all my doors well oiled, and screwed in tight they have a bit of a thud to them, a merc seems to make a bigger deal of closing the door you get a really good thud and know its closed, they arent doors they are gates.
Though vw doesnt give off this solidity the mk3 golf what a piece of flimsy crap, i mind my da got one after a 205 and the doors soon started to sag and wouldnt hit the catch, then it rattled and its rattle couldnt be found and the switches didnt have any slick feeling to them. It was replaed with a 306 a much better car.

The mk3 Golf doesn't seem to be aging well at all.
Look how many rusty examples are about.

they are rusty and their front light cluster seems to fall out from an early age, and the door handles feel loose on them and the ventos of that age that ive been in, The 306 on the other hand seems to age a bit better, the landrover defender is the only one on the road which doesnt age you could buy a 1991 model clean it up, put new lights on it, and a new dash and pass it off as brand new.

I thought they had different engines now :?

Golf 3s seem to bend their rear subframes rather easily here.

Your right, but no one will know in a car park wheather its an old or new engine.
This is amazing how the subject has changed to the engine in a defender

You mean this is the first time you've noticed a thread drifting miles away from its original subject? Blimey, I thought they all did that :cheesy:
