So a properly functioning hdi engine like the one in my car is better than an xud from my point of view, and for peugeot to compete with the diesels from other companies it needs the hdi.
It's more for jumping through the hoops the Europijan Cummunity sets. Ok, economy, power, stuff like that would have come from competition but the emissions crap is what all the sensors are for. Garbage like the FAP are what PSA have had to add to cars so you can place a baby seal next to the exhaust with no ill effects. Anyway, parts are built down to a cost. a huge one for some reason, but a cost, and all they need to do is work until the warranty runs out then as far as the manufacturers are concerned they're just another way to make money.

the emissions nonsense is a nuisance, america had it worse than we did, their big engines had so much emissions rubbish on them that you would have got more power in an engine much smaller eg 180bhp from 4 litres is a joke.

On the issue of the service box thingy do i need to be a professional motor repairer?

No, unless you want to see wiring diagrams, diagnostics, repair procedures, special tools...

Incidental while we're on the subject, can anyone tell me if it would be possible to pay for an hours access to the wiring diagrams & download the whole lot?
