the 135 has the same diff lock, its basically the same tractor just with a newer look and its easier to start, but really theres not much difference just the lookCountryPug wrote:I disagree completely and regard the 35 as the king of tractors406executiveHDI wrote:The 135 is the king of the tractors although there is always a good debate on wheather its better than its predecessor the 35, i say yes because its the newer tractor, does a whopping 20mph and on the ice you just need to move to do one.Diff lock on ice ftw!

lol, yeah i know but the original is always best. The same way the 405 will always be better than the 406 (in my opinion of course)

but things move along and get improved, there is no digital climate control near the 405 or the same sort of armrests in the seats

Re: A rare beauty
a good tractor, provided its a diesel one tvo is a bit of a nuisance if your going to be using it for working, the thing thats good about the older massies like this is there is a much better quality to them than newer tractors, all the parts are made of well hardened metal, they are very straightforward to fix and generally just well made stuff. The 135 we have on the farm was bought by my grampa some time back in the 60s and its never broke down, all the steering linkages were recently replaced, the brakes replaced, but it still starts on the first turn of the key, and doesnt use a drop of oil or water.

Re: A rare beauty
In the whole spirit of showing rare beauties heres the 135:

I know they arent rare but this one is you wont find a bonnet or grille sculpted like that anywhere else, and we thought about fixing it up but that damage shows 50 years of the tractors history, its part of its character, no point in fixing it up or you just end up with another dolled up 135.

Super looking 135 in its working clothes exec!! I guess my point about the older generation stuff being better wasn't explained very well. Obviously stuff improves and I love my 406 but I feel the older gen stuff like the MF35 and 405 have a certain spirit about them that isn't apparent to me in the newer machinery..I don't know if that makes much sense.lol.
Anyway, here is a pic of our cherished MF35, also in its working wear. You may notice the blue chunk of metal screwed to its belly, this is to attach a side mounted hedgecutter. You may also notice the tank behind the drivers seat, this contains hydraulic oil which is used to operate the POWER STEERING and front-end loader. Not sure if its a world first on a 35 but my dad build this system for it before I was born. The 35 was used to clean out our poultry houses and the power steering and rapid front-end loader made it the perfect tool for tight maneuvering.

There's lots around here like that, although usually with lights because they now have to pass the local MOT equivalent. Those that are registered that is
The guy that delivered some of our firewood here had an old Zetor that lacked even a battery, so they had to leave it running while they unloaded the trailer. Mudguards hanging off, broken or missing lights, leaking oil everywhere... Anyway, having lights is no guarantee that they'll use them, and even if they do they generally don't bother to put any on a trailer, so it's not uncommon to find one at night with the front of your car
Oh, and they have to go on the road because people usually own a long thin strip of land somewhere a few miles off (which they distribute liberally on the road on their way home
)

Re: A rare beauty
nice 135 there, but i like the working suit of countrypugs yoke more, the 35, and 135 though seem to be both from an era when tractors were well made. Ill need to show the pic of the 65 its another thing my grampa bought an ex RAF tractor with a powerhose again rough looking but going well, it would need to because £3000 was spent completely restoring it mechanically that is, the day it come back from the restoration place it was a different tractor i put my foot down and the front just lifted off the air.
Anyhow theres a big pair of renaults needed for the heavy work so here they are, they might be more powerful but i prefer the 135, though there is a good exhaust snort:

good tractors, and like fiat tractors built better than the cars

Tractor talk is good, the 3 point linkage really is a fantastic bit of kit.
