BANG! ....406 HDI 110 ...hmmmm?

Post by diesel406 »

I was driving along today ( well zipping along actually) when suddenly I heard a Bang - thought is was the engine undertray being ripped off again but no, after a closer look under the bonnet I found a large diameter (around 9 cm) rubber pipe running from the front left to under the engine with a huge hole in it and chaffing on the side - looks like part of the turbo system as the car ran afterwards with no warning lights on but seemed to lack the normal power.

I limped to and left it at my local garage but interested in any comments from y'all :?

Cheers

Lewis

Intercooler hose? If so it's a pretty straightforward replacement to fix, nowt to worry about. Didn't you have a strongbow can and some gaffer tape on hand to effect a temporary repair?

It's a very common problem indeed, I even correctly long-distance-diagnosed the very same issue on my Bro's Saab 95 using only the amature descriptions of the non-mechanically minded half of the Rees boys while he was on holiday on France. Unfortunately he chose to ignore my sage counsell and drove it all the way home to Wales in limp mode before taking it to his local (friend of the family - on his wife's side   ) garage, the incompetence of whom completely amazed me as they incorrectly diagnosed and "fixed" the issue TWICE, costing Bro at least THRICE what the job should've cost.....

Dost thou lay down a challenge at me good sire? For fear not, I am in more that adequate posession of the aforementioned hairy plums. :cheesy:

Dai, I've been meaning to point out that one thing our illustrious forum lacks is enough 'stickies'.

Perhaps a an example or two of ingenious low-budget solutions.....
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

In that case sire, I shall run ye through with my cold hearted photography and smite ye with the evidence presented thus!
