old autos i suppose would have ate all the power, what focus are you on about because the rs is a beast (thats not the word), i suppose a 407 3l v6 hdi is quicker than most old 70/80s v6 stuff.

1.6 99bhp petrol. Bare in mind the grandads RWD and the Auto box probably sucks quite abit of the 130bhp and it's only 4spd.

My Dad had a mk2 2.8i Ghia X Granada (EBZ if it ever turned up again?), was a cracking big car, comfortable and looked mean.

Seemed fast though I was too young to drive. A diesel Focus is probably faster than it, but doesn't have the elegance.

Shame they killed off the big RWD Ford after the Scorpio (as did Vauxhall-Opel when they cancelled the Omega), for the following reasons:
  • - They owned "executive car" marques, Volvo and Saab (though both have now sold)
  • - Big saloons don't sell like they used to, people prefer SUVs and MPVs. Most marques now have one saloon/large hatch
  • - That one saloon/hatch in the marque is usually quite big as sizes increase (the new Mondeo is bigger than a Granada, the 508 is to cover the 407 and 607)
  • - Big saloon buyers flock to German marques like the sheep that they are
Shame they don't import big Holdens (as Vauxhall did for the VXR8, but with a 2.0 petrol or diesel engine and V6) or Aussie Fords like the Funeral parlours do.

Probably the closest to a modern day spiritual successor of the mk2 Granada is the Chrysler 300.

Will find out tommorow. Done about 60 miles town driving. Hoping for 30mpg, but reckon I'm being a little bit optimistic

optimistic at 30mpg that doesnt sound good, my diesels doing 46 with my heavy foot, are you doing drag races in it?
Sir wiggum i agree none have the elegance of the old big granada, but no one will miss the froggy scorpio. The chrysler 300 has a imposing look doesnt it, a tad mafiash. Anyhow despite all the sales figures i love citroens strategy of just ploughing on and making the c6, 'misseur sarkozy drives une, so lets make many more', its not a slow car either i test drove one and it moves rightly.

The 300 is very Sopranos, as the Granada was very Sweeney :cheesy: (bit before my time admittedly!)

Do like the C6, hope to own one one day. Modern day CX!

I watched an olde episode of the sweeney, and the professionals old fords just looked so suave or flashy, new cars these days with their integrated fog lights dont look as dramatic as cars like the granada with about 4 high power spots.
The CX is a good car, i wouldnt mind a Series 2 Prestige LWB with a cream interior. (i know series 2 was conventionalised by peugeot but its still mad enough, and doesnt rust as bad as the series 1s)

There's a guy down the road here with a couple of CXes rusting away in his garden. Rusty hydraulic lines killed them, as with many Citroens, even if the rest of the car was fine the cost of replacing them was prohibitive. My old man had a CX25 family estate, it was mahahassive  Just looking on Wiki, they were originally meant to have a rotary engine  My uncle had a C-matic CX, I remember my aunt driving us about in it, I've never driven one so I still don't have a clue what it was she was doing with the gearchange.

Never got more than 44mpg out of my diesel and typically 33-37mpg daily. Bare in mind the Focus has 20 litres less in it's tank and it's going down abit quicker than the 406, so maybe thats why I think it's going to be so bad? If I can get 30mpg out of it day to day, I can afford it :)

ahy i suppose it would be alright then, if your not buying parts for the car then overall its not as expensive.
What about comfort though, does the focus have the comfy ride of the 406.
