to my 406 90 HDi the bloody 406 was 40 quid a year more expensive and only something like group 12,

so i would say the 406 is one of the more expensive cars out there to insure for some reason

Must say the 406 was about the same as the Alfa Romeo GTV to insure.

I think this might explain the 406 insurance rating:
D8
http://www.euroncap.com/tests/peugeot_406_1997/20.aspx
D9
http://www.euroncap.com/tests/peugeot_406_2001/105.aspx

having said that the 406s safety was no worse than other cars of the time, seems a bit better actually:

mercedes c class
http://www.euroncap.com/tests/mercedes_ ... 97/18.aspx

Bmw 3 Series
http://www.euroncap.com/tests/bmw_3_series_1997/15.aspx

But what does the insurance matter, the 406 is more comfortable than most, and for its age the refinement of the hdi is hard to get in other diesels.

Knowing that we wont survive a head on impact into an NCAP approved wall while covered in checkered roundels makes us all safer drivers!

Compare that to the invincibility that some school run SUV drivers feel and the poor standard of their driving!

I know a woman from round near me, not really a tall woman about 5ft and she drives a x5 for one child, and what is the obsession with mpvs the chryseler voyager is the first choice for the family with 2 children round here when a golf would do just fine. And they drive like maniacs, at speeds i dont even think them cars are supposed to go near.

I dunno about you but I'd rather spend the extra on luxuries like food :(

My 17 year old son has had quotes as high as £9,000 for a Micra

In my area there has been a lot of fraud, certain sections of our community take it upon themselves to set off from junctions and roundabouts then slam on their brakes forcing you to hit them up the rear, then when the claim goes in there are suddenly 5 people in the car instead of one and each has injuries, because of this premiums in this area are very high, if they will quote you at all

Bloody hell jasper that's terrible! :frown:

One of our vans at work was involved in a bizarre accident on the M25 about 18months ago where a guy slammed on and swerved right in front of it for no real reason and it turns out the claim is still hanging around and is something to do with a gang doing this regularly....on the M25   bloody dangerous or what? :x

Thanks to my White Van Man incident in Earlston, I'm now seriously struggling to get insured on the coupe for less than £1,000. I had to claim on my insurance for that, I can't afford to fix the damage to the bodywork myself, and I'm actually hoping now that the insurer writes off the car and takes it away

My best quote is with Admiral (£945 for the year or £830 for 10 months "bonus accelerator"). Will be phoning them today, unless someone points me in the direction of someone who will guarantee to beat that - I have been round all the major insurance houses.

The worst quote was Churchill, who were quoting me more than £3,000. Oh Yes, the bloody nodding dog is having you on, if he's telling you he will give you a good deal on your car insurance

I'm 30 years old, passed my test in September 2007, have no criminal convictions (motoring or otherwise), have never had a speeding ticket or parking ticket, am married and have a 16-year-old stepson, and drive a Peugeot 406. I don't live in a high-crime area. I had one at-fault insurance claim in November 2007 and one not-at-fault insurance claim in October 2010 (technically I'm the victim of a crime), yet I get slapped with really huge insurance costs. What about my particular profile says "high risk"?

My colleague is 27 and just bought herself an Audi TT with the 2 litre turbocharged 200 HP engine, and her insurance is considerably less than mine. Her no-claims history is very similar to mine. Yes I know she's female and therefore considered a safer driver.

I spent all day yesterday on the phone and on the web searching for a better price for my insurance and I can honestly tell you I've never been quite so angry, upset, or nauseous in my life.

It's true that the government isn't to blame for high insurance costs by forcing us all to be insured by law - but by not regulating (read: capping) the spiraling costs of insurance premiums, they're not doing anybody any favours. No wonder there are so many uninsured drivers out there.

I hate insurance companies, they're your bestest friend in the world UNTIL you make a claim :x

There was a TV programme on about that "cash for crash" stuff a couple of months ago. Seems to be loads of it going on in the UK at the moment.
