Shower fan

Ive a problem in the house in the bathroom and close rooms the ceiling went a bit mouldy which i assumed was from the steam of the electric shower i put in, there is a fan there but it doesnt work, so i bought a new one wired it up and it didnt work either (i wired it up on the principle that the red wire is the same as brown one is Live, and the black wire is blue neutral) but still no luck this new fan seems to have a microchip on it but its not whizzing yet. I crossed the wires and there is power getting to it but its not starting up.

Circuitry might be a timer. Find a length of flex, wire one end into the fan & the other into a plug, plug it in and see if it works.

There should be a permanent live which keeps the fan going on a timer and switched live which goes to the light fitting.

That's a point, there should be two lives if it's a timer (long time since I played with one, I couldn't find one with a timer here either so mine's got its own switch)

ah right thats what the chip is, a timer, i didnt think that because it didnt say 555 on the chip. But it says its humidity triggered, so its going now after the shower is turned to full whack.
One issue now, the plasterboard ceiling has went a bit mouldy can i just wipe it off and paint white over it.

It'll probably come through the paint, Teamster has this one covered - paint with gloss, then emulsion. Might need to clean it up with vinegar first.

Could run a dehumidifier for a bit to dry things out.

I do not possess such a device, ill use a hairdryer great place to use them in the bathroom, i might fall into the bath and gain an ability to know what women want, as mel gibson did.

A hair drier will move the damp to another spot, a dehumdifier will get rid of the damp. I hired one for £30 for the weekend and the damp was gone. Then use a good quality bathroom paint ti seal it for good. I have the same problem, a bathroom with no windows. Not an ideal situation.
