Starting to miss my 406 :(

Post by Bailes1992 »

Only been a week! And where is it? Sat outside my house :(
I've only driven the Focus 100 miles but already missing the 406. The Focus has nowhere near as much charecter as the Pug.
I mean the Focus starts first time without fail! How boring is that!!!!
The Focuses seats are really hard to sink into and relax and I miss the diesels mid range punch :(
I'm tempted to ask for it back but it needs some serious work and ontop of that a respray before I'd be completley happy with it :(

What is it about the 406? My Uncle tried to sell his 406 when he bought a Civic i-CDTi, within a few months he sold the brand new civic and started driving his 406 again.

Sigh...

I know the feeling, a certain je ne sais quoi. Other cars do seem to miss that certain something.

Yeh theres just something there that the Focus lacks and I can't put my finger on it.
It's faster, better specced, newer, much more fun to drive. Yet Has no charecter, to own it's dull as dish water?
The 406 had it's problems, but I knew how to drive the car in such a way that they were never a problem if that makes sense? I was the only one who could drive it without making the gearbox clunk, or start it up first time etc.
The Focus has nothing. It's just like every other car? Ahh well :(

Ditch both 406 and Focus and get yourself a 2.2 HDi Coupe (you said petrol 406s are an insurance nightmare for you - how about an HDi)
2002 (D9) Peugeot 406 Coupe SE, 2.2 litre Petrol. Scarlet Red/Rouge Ecarlate/Rosso Scarlatto. Black Leather interior. SOLD :(
2008 (E60 LCI) BMW 525i M-Sport, 3.0 litre Petrol. Carbonschwarz Metallic. Black Dakota Leather and Myrtlewood interior.

They wouldn't touch me on my Uncle 2.0 HDi (90). Don't hold out much hope for a Coupe.

Its very hard to put my finger on it, but when i get into a german car they definatley lack the comfort of a 406, theres also something about the steering it feels very well connected, wobble it about while driving you can feel the whole car woking for you, thats what i like. Then the spec of the exec is another plus point.
But there is a undefinable character there, its the same story if i was to choose a small van the vw caddy is an appliance, but a berlingo has something about it which makes it much better, perhaps its the storage boxes, or the quieter diesel even an xud in a berlingo still is nicer to listen to the sound of a tdi.

Odd that they'll insure you on an older 1.9 Turbo Diesel with about 90HP but won't insure you on a more modern 2.0 common-rail turbo diesel with about 90HP... I don't understand insurance companies, other than their goal seems to be to earn as much money as possible by spreading as much misery as possible.

Give it a year or two and let your NCB build up, then see if you can get hold of a Coupe. In the meantime, enjoy the Focus and just pretend that it's your unreliable mate Bernard :)

I was dreading having that feeling when I put my coupe in for the Mondeo..... and I'm relieved to say I don't regret it at all. Dairees reminded me of something I told him a few years ago when he was thinking of changing. I said then that regardless of what car he had, he'd like it.

How strange is it that i now prefer the look of my Mondeo to the coupe?!?! I thoguht I'd never like a car as much as the coupe again, but it's happening already...

As for coupe HDi insurance, it was quite expensive for me. I've now got a top of the range mondeo worth 5 times the coupe, and the insurance company gave me £20 back, half way through the year.

There are times when I miss my Alfa GTV.

But the 406 does feel better built, and is a *lot* better on fuel.

You should focus (hey, get it? 'Focus') on the positives.........it's just finding the positives that might be hard

I missed the chumfiness of the 406 for a bit but found I enjoyed other things about the Volvo more so kinda moved on......

The important thing for me is whether or not I'd have another 406 and yes, I would! now that's the sign of a good car.
