Poor Starting in hot weather

Just a quickie and any help appreciated

With all this hot weather the 406 is suffering in the heat

It sits at the Satation for 10 hours and when I get back it a sod to start - normally takes 5-10 seconds of cranking before it bursts into life

Now when I put the key in (and move it to position 2) I can hear the whine of the fuel pump as normal for about 5 seconds - is it just that it's so hot at the mo (and the car is 10 years old) that the fuel in and around the pump is evapourating away? and it's having to draw it back from the tank

Once it's warmed up then it's not a problem, in cool weather it starts just fine

I wonder if it needs a visit to the main stealer for a major (100,000 mile) service even maybe so the diags can be read off?

Any thoughts anyone?

You haven't said if it is a petrol or diesel you silly boy

May be worth considering if the following parts have been replaced in the last couple of years:

Petrol:

Spark plugs/leads
Fuel Filter
Air Filter
Oil & Filter (won't affect starting but hey)
Try some injector cleaner
Main Fuel Relay (but you said you can hear the pump running)

Diesel:

Glow Plugs
Fuel Pump Fault
Air in system/bleed
Fuel Filter
Air Filter
Injector Cleaner

Whoops

1.8 16v Petrol

It had new plugs, oil+filter, fuel filter about 2000 miles ago

Interestingly it's been Ok for the last two days!!!!

Just see how it goes then, it could have been an alarm/immobiliser fault in the extreme heat - my alarm went funny the other day in the heat.
