The Expense Has Started ...
... not had the car a week yet. Its in the garage for glowplugs, cambelt and waterpump. 2 glowplugs completely dead, so no wonder it was a bitch to start in the morning. Oh well, hopefully it will be worth it in the fuel savings when on Veg Oil.

Re: The Expense Has Started ...
Spent nearly £3 grand on my 406 over a year
Worked it out last night. Then went and popped a seal on the throttle arm on the fuel pump while runnign veg oil
And when I went to do the timing belt I snapped the bolt on the crank pully...
Yet, I would have another one at the click of a finger?

Bio diesel but I think it would still kill the pump due to the high menthanol content!406executiveHDI wrote:thats unfortunate, is there any alternatives to running a car on petrol bar lpg is there any plant you can grow that makes petrol

Re: The Expense Has Started ...
did it get it going, whats ic (because all that springs to mind is integrated circuit, and i doubt your spraying it at a 555 timer somewhere in the car), we used to have an old jcb digger and obvously glow plug heating was an option so on a cold morning it required a rag on the end of a stick dipped in red diesel set alight to get it going.

HDi will need to be twin tanked. Start on Diesel, then switch to Veg once engine is warmed up, switch back to Diesel again 5 mile or so before you turn off the engine. 2.1TD is a Lucas pump, so cant be done, must convert to Bosch Pump. All Diesels can use BIO, but it must be well made.

I know someone, and saw it for myself, who gradually increased the concentration of Crisp 'n' Dry in his VW Polo SDi until the fuel pump spewed said oil from just about every orifice going
The car lasted 3 months in his (un) capable hands and now sits in the back garden! - calculate the fuel savings on THAT one

Re: The Expense Has Started ...
Why would you need to run vegetable oil on a polo sdi it doesnt run on diesel it barely runs on anything the only trade off is a car that rattles like mad, sounds louder than a cement mixer, and is slower to 60 than a golf cart. I dont see any point in an sdi a 205 diesel is better, cheaper also and can run on veg stuff.

Re: The Expense Has Started ...
VW's are not recommended for Veg, unless you get a really cheap 1 and can soon get your money back. 405/406 TD's are regarded as one of the best vehicles for Veg, hence why they are sort after, and the price rise in 1.9TD's over the last 12 mths. For me, after doing all the work, and buying the car I've still spent under £1k. I'll have that money back in fuel saving within 6 mths.Welly wrote:I know someone, and saw it for myself, who gradually increased the concentration of Crisp 'n' Dry in his VW Polo SDi until the fuel pump spewed said oil from just about every orifice going![]()
