Oh that reminds me Doggy, the kettle in my office has not been PAT tested since I bought it in 2006, will it explode if I don't have it PAT tested and have one of those little green stickers telling me it's totally safe?
It's been bothering me for ages, I don't know how we managed before PAT testing - the country must have been a wash with people running out of buildings screaming at having been electrocuted.....

That was a different one with the FAP issues.ELECTRICTEST implies one of these jokers that does PAT tests, which is right up there with, 'Well, I haven't starved so far' in terms of achievement, IMHO.
I think the rev counter info / temp info will come comms-wise from engine ecu & fuel gauge direct as this is a pre COM2000 car. It's always possible theres more than one fault.....
Did it have a mysterious 'jump' in mileage? - this suggests poor connections to the clocks.
It's obviously had a cambelt snap or similar, lots of bits changed but no sign of a recon, good / bad? I dunno.
Didn't it have any FAP issues previously?
The clocks are currently showing 130ish thou, but he said this was because he changed the clocks to try to cure the fault, but it remained. When I spoke to him on the phone the first time he also said that he'd sent the BSI off to be fixed, but apparently that came back ok too.
The fact that he's left it for 2 months & is still selling in the same condition suggests to me that it may be either an expensive problem to fix or that it still can't be diagnosed.
Whichever way you look at it, it sets alarm bells ringing which is a shame because in full working order it'd be a damn nice motor.
Think I may just give up on the 2.2 plan. Got my half leathers coming today & should hopefully have them fitted before Christmas. My car's had all the belts & water pump replaced, sailed through the last MOT & is still only showing 83k. Probably a better idea to get a remap done on mine for the little bit of extra grunt that I'm looking for.

The irony of it is that the legislation was meant to formalise / enforce a system of visual / common sense checks by the user of the appliance - (is the cable securely clamped / undamaged? is the plug hanging off? casing in one piece?). I don't want vibration when I put my foot down either...
Is yours still doing that? How did the extra power affect your mpg?
If Id really wanted the 2.2 I would've shelled out the £2500 for that SE that was on Ebay a few weeks ago as it's probably the best example that's been on sale over the past few months that I've seen.
Problem with that would be that I would've lost out big time on my car. Paid £1400 for it in February & probably spent another £1k since then getting it serviced, all the belts changed, windows tinted & alloys (which still need a refurb) etc. All I'd ever get back for it is about £1500 & that'd only be because of the low mileage.
Don't get me wrong, I think the 2.2 is a fantastic proposition (without the FAP of course) as the C5 I had with it went like a rocket, but I could end up spending another £1500 getting one & STILL end up paying out another £5-600 getting that up to the same standard as my one.
If this SRi had all the electrical faults fixed with it & the correct mileage showing, I'd probably happily hand over £1500 & just add the extra seats from my car to that, but then I'd also probably be kicking my own arse when weeks later I was fixing things that went wrong with it that I wouldn't have to do on mine.

Yes, I can understand that - yours does look tidy and it is the devil you know.
I still get vibration, but only if I floor it around 1500 RPM or less, (as Steve said it's not a two positon switch).
MPG is definitely better, only about 2 mpg, but a genuine improvement. I've no doubt it could use more fuel, but most of my driving is cruising at 70-ish so no real surprise there. As you'll know from the C5, the std. car's not slow, so unless you're determined, you have to work at it to thrash it all the time.

SRi now sold for £950 to a mystery buyer. Less than the one with the anti-pollution fault the other week.
