The 406 is Alive! I was able to get a starter motor off a donor hdi engine at my local garage, cost me £25. Set to work fitting it last night and after about an hour fiddling with spanners and sockets I had the starters changed over. My car is now starting fine and it was a satisfying job

Yeah its pretty straight-forward on the HDi 90. Had to unclip one of the fuel lines from the filter to give me more room to work, even with that it was quite tight to work with a socket and spanner. I reckon it would be more of a hassle on the 110 HDi because of the intercooler pipes.

I wouldn't work on a car without one! Not point in actually opening of course, but it's nice to have it there to put your mug of coffee on...

I bought one to change my brakes on the Focus. Brakes have been done and it's still sat in the conservertory with the selophane on itsteve_earwig wrote:I wouldn't work on a car without one! Not point in actually opening of course, but it's nice to have it there to put your mug of coffee on...

I bought one when i got my suzuki i have a 406 one also, but all ive used the suzuki one for was to write down the phone number for the man selling the vitara, and i wanted to see the order of the distributor cap thats an understatedly handy bit of advice, i tried the random configuration but the engine just didnt seem to have its normal je ne ce quaios about it.

They're handy enough.
Although the GTV didn't have one, the Xantia and the ZX ones were for phase 1 models. Luckily the 406 covers D9s specifically

they are useful but not a book you can sit down and have 'a good read' at, its hard to beat the old time brochures, i bought an old brochure for a 305 estate it was published in 87 i think but the things that were optional back then such as headrests and grab handles and the brochure was full of bullsh*t about the car being execptionally safe because the steering wheel was a bit soft, i suppose it was easier to be pleased back then.

Apart from the 2.2, 3.0, HPi, coupes... oh, and cars made after 2002 (is it a coincidence that fully multihex 406s started being made then?)sirwiggum wrote:Luckily the 406 covers D9s specifically

Re: Got a flat battery (when buying a new battery)
i had a manual for a mercedes w124 and it never covered the v8 models and haynes never made any effort to direct you to help with it, its the same with the suzuki book it excludes the 2.0 v6 what happens if you buy one of them are you forced to a life of mystery about where various parts are meant to go
