Insurance for 17 year old's

Is there not a scheme whereby one can have a camera fitted to one's automobile to 'film' one's stewardship of the vehicle in a bid to lower the insurance cost and settle any claims with hard evidence?

I know it's popular in America?

One would have to drive in a respectful manner at all times I suppose.........

that wouldnt be great, then i couldnt have my nice wee handbrake turns on privatley owned land, but then i do keep the car to 30 on the dot when driving through a 30mph zone.

I've always insured our car in my wife's name and made myself a named driver, it makes one hell of a difference to the premium.

My wife has no drivers' license, so that option is right out.

Well I've got my coupe insurance. I'm paying more than £90 per month to insure it - soooooooooo pissed off, but that was by far the cheapest quote.

Hopefully next year it'll go down a bit

Made me laugh when it came to renewal
My insurance wanted to hike mine up from £600 to £750

I am with direct line, and bank with RBS
RBS branch said as I'm a customer I could get 25% off my insurance
Rang them and they wanted £900!!!
Rang Churchill, they also wanted £900

Funny thing is Churchill and Direct line are RBS companies!

Rang Direct line and told them if they didn't do me a better deal I'd look elsewhere
Met me half way on the increase but even so, I'm 41, only ever made one claim and that was around 15 years ago and don't live in a rough area

The first vehicle I got insured on was a mini van

I went with the co-op as they gave you one years no claims as an introductory discount

The agent ( what's one of them these days) said, it's a commercial vehicle, I said, well yes, he said ok we'll insure you as a commercial vehicle.
Cost me £200 would of paid nearly double at the time on a normal mini

Had some fun with that van

Had 6x10 cosmics with 165/70's on it, a 1275 on twin su's, a LCB, a RC40 eggsauce, and seats out of a morris screamer ( marina)
Was going down the A5 passing everything in sight, but gauge was only reading 60
My mate tapped the speedo, and the gauge went round to half way along the fuel gauge

Nope, a 2.2 petrol (160 HP) - apparently only 3,000-ish Coupes worldwide were built with this engine.

My 17 year old son passed his test today, lowest quote for a 2001 Micra was £5,600, highest was £20,000, strangely enough from a so-called young persons insurance specialist.
Direct Line and the other major insurers wouldn't even quote because of our postcode.... we live in one of the worst areas in the countrty where those "cash for crash" fraudsters operate. Why haven't the authorities and Insurance companies clamped down on this?

Any suggestions for insurance for my 17 year old son would be gratefully received.

A trick i did was to add a women/ older driver (women are better for this) to the insurance as a named driver. This means that instead of a 17 year old driver, driving it 100% of the time. The amount of time the car is driven by the teenager is in theory lowered as a sensible older women would be driving it 10/20 % of the time. Hope that was explained well if not try it out and see.

A weird thing to do is watch last weeks watchdog on playback. They had a piece about saving money on car insurance

Luckily my insurance let me carry on on last years prices if I renewed with them

Bejesus, it'd actually be cheaper to have taxi's everywhere

I'm shocked at this but don't really know of any suggestions to help, might have a word with our broker for the business......

The only positive thing about him passing his test so far is that he is now allowed to drive company vehicles and customers cars on the road....all those shiny new Volvos and such

My da told me back in his day ie the 70's insurance wasnt really that important not for him anyhow, luckilly he never crashed into anyone but he did manage to write off 16 cars that year all old bangers and mostly british leyland. He said back in the 70s the police were occupied with other things over here than to be looking insurance details, then he said when he did get insurance on his first decent car a cortina it was dirt cheap, and filling the car up was apparently round £15

I too have heard all sorts of tales from back-in-the-day, when the peelers were "otherwise occupied with other matters"...

Though was the death rate on the roads back then not over 300, compared to just over 100 now?
