rear wheel bearings
how much does it cost to put rear wheel bearings in my car (independant garage) could i do it myself and is it normal to change on or do the 2 at the same time. This noise has occured 2 weeks after passing the mot, what a great thorough test.
Re: rear wheel bearings
My Mate did both rear ones on mine in 40 mins
I gave him £40 for the honour
When I say bearings, it's the hubs, as you can't change the bearings on their own, it has to be the whole unit.
I paid £46 IIRC each, so cost me £132 to get the job done.

Righteo it is cheap indeed, well ill leave it till the wheel falls off before changing its only noticeable with the car fully loaded and taking bends.

Re: rear wheel bearings
Done the rear wheel hub myself - cost about £35 for the part (in the trade) and needs a massive socket to take the hub nut off. I think it was something like 35mm or 40mm IIRC. Not much to it really! Good luck!
P.S - I wouldnt bother changing the other if there is no noise from it. The hubs are'nt really a weak point for the Pug.

Re: rear wheel bearings
What happened with mine was thus
I ordered a hub for a 99 car - which mine is
Only that wasn't quite right, as despite d8's going up to 99, they listed them as up to 98
So ended up with a wrong tooth count on the hub
Ended up with a ABS fault, but took couple of months to find out the hub count was wrong though.
In that time, the other bearing started to go.
Hence why I ended up having both mine done at the same time.
You might only do one now, but these things have a funny habit of happening in pairs
