Metal specks in Fuel filter housing

Post by RichardFryer »

Changed to fuel filter on my 2002 110 HDI estate the other day. Had n't been done for 24,000 so it came out black but what I did notice at the bottom of the plastic fuel filter housing near the drain hole was silvery metal specks / particles.

Anyone know what causes this, what other symptoms this may be a sign of and what will happen eventually ? :?:

I'm no diesel expert, but I suspect it could be from the lift pump? I think bits of metal making it past the fuel filter can result in the high pressure pump (very expensive I think) being damaged
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
