Battery chargeing

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Battery chargeing

Post by raccoon »

Hi everyone, hope the snow is not stopping you enjoying yourself. The cold weather and my late shifts are causing me a small bit of trouble. I am going to work in the dark and the same coming home. I have my heater on high to keep the screen free of frost. I am using the rear heated screen a lot to. My lights are on all the time to and from work. My battery does not like this much and I know why but I cannot cut down the amount of power I am using at the moment.
So I was wondering if I could put my battery charger onto the battery when its still connected to the car. It would be on a trickle charge though. I dont want to disconect the cables because I dont know the radio code and the hastle I had with my renault getting that code I dont want to go through the same thing. Any thoughts would be apreciated.

If your cars a D9 it doesnt loose the radio code, its vin coded so as long as you dont swap your radio for another one its ok. I know that we put cars here on the farm including a toyota previa and a polo on the trickle charger and it hasnt done them any harm, i havent charged the 406 yet just replaced the battery. but if in doubt you can just disconnect a termninal, and charge the battery that way then no voltage spikes will harm the ecu.

I hook up my optimate to my car without any issues. I suppose if it's a good regulated charger (as opposed to something cheap & nasty from Lidl) then it should be ok.

does the front have a honeycomb grille, is the rear lights seperated in 2 parts by a bit of plastic the colour of the bodywork, do you have a hazzard warning light up beside the speedo if yes its a D9 and it would have a HDI, if not its a D8 which most likely has an XUD as you said with no turbo.

all diesels need turbos, but there was some diesels back some time ago that never got any and the hateful sdi engines. But also it is a misconception by some people that the HDI engines dont have a turbo but they do.

Theyd need to be turbos. Is there any new cars that dont have a diesel with turbos. Because i think vw has phased out the SDI (slow dreary irritating).

yip thats a hdi, either 90 or 110 not sure how to define the difference apart from more power and a sticker on the metal bit where the door opens saying 'hdi 110' and i think theres a big pipe there in the engine bay for the 110

It'll be a 110, I don't think the 90s came out for a year or two after.
