outside temp sensor and gubbins

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

outside temp sensor and gubbins

Post by DiscoPol »

Hello all, as you may or may not know i no longer have the 406,i am missing it in more ways than one :(
but the main thing im missing right now apart from the frugal nature of the beasty is the outside temp gauge, so i was think, whats involved in the old D8 temp gauge,

ie ripping one out of a scrapper and butchering it into the disco, im not bothered about the aesthetics of the install, i drive a land rover for gods sake, its a tractor in disguise and not a particularly good disguise at that

but the bones of the system in the D8, is it just a read out in the car and and the sensor in the wing mirror? i was hoping that by choosing to try the d8 version i would avoid all that multhexed BSI malarky on the D9s, so come on chaps whats involved, which bits do i need to pilfer and where from?

it would just be nice to know just how cold it really is out there this winter.

Cheers

That should be fairly straightforward. All you need is a D8 MFD and the sensor, may be worth grabbing the plug for the MFD with a good length of loom to save hassle. I retrofitted it to my old LX with no worries!

You can buy a stand alone outside temp guage that sticks to the dash with a sensor that goes outside. It runs off its own battery so no wiring involved. Dead easy and cheap. We fit them on the older trucks and coaches. Try a bit of googling or fleabaying. No butchering required either. Can'nt remember what the brand name is.
