In a D9 with the windscreeen clear button pressed should air still be able to come through the face vents?, when the presets turned off it does stop going to the face, but as for the feet preset, i can set it to feet only and the face still gets air unless the vents themselves are individually turned off, and actually come to think of it i assume the only outlet for foot heat is them ducts beide the seats the amount of air that comes out of them never matches the force you would get out of the face thing. Is there any need for concern here or is this normal.

I have been experimenting with the settings, and found that the air direction icon is in cahoots with the fuel gauge (should be used only for rough guidance).
  • Up: outer vents still work but middle ones get reduced flow.
  • Centre: appears truthful.
  • Up and down: all vents also work, i.e., it is really up, centre and down.
  • Centre and down: appears truthful.
  • Down: actually centre and down.
I believe the demist button gives it carte blanche to do whatever it pleases. I have not managed to reverse-engineer the French logic.

middle ones do you mean face ones, and how much air normally comes out the foot ones because i dont seem to ever get the same great blasts of air out of them as i would with the face or windscreen one. And i can hear the mechanism moving about when i change direction about 3 seconds later i hear the noise of a motor and something moving. Basically i think the face vents seem to get air most of the time. and thats after testing it there now.

Where do i start to look at the motor which moves this about?

Yeah, it's trying to use the side ones to clear the side windows too. I close the centre vent when using it.

and what about the foot ones do you ever get a decent air pressure out of them or just a waft of warm air as i get.

I found it helps to check the carpeting above the pedal area in the footwell as that can block the airflow a bit but there never is a good blast to the feet, more a kinda drizzle but very hot air!

is there any thing i can take a few tools to in order to inspect it to make sure its going right, or is it hard to get at?

Very fiddly. The best bet is to select Max fan speed and then run through the various settings up/down etc and listen/feel for changes in air direction. Throttling-down the central face vents has a beneficial effect on the rest of the system (sending more air to it).

so basically your saying is the face ones always get air.
Go on and describe this fiddly job, i dont know how bad it is till i try it.
my biggest issue was the foot one the other night, i didnt have feet i had 2 dead blocks of ice on the end of my legs and i needed heat because its hard to do much driving with 2 dead feet.

Hello,

Has anyone an update on this topic? I'm facing the same issue with low (or next to no) air volume to the feet; I even suspect a faulty actuator motor for the foot air flap. Does anyone know how difficult it is to get access to this motor/flap? I was thinking yo try to remove the motor and block the foot air flap on MAX open (keeping the motor connected to the electric in order to avoid error in the Climate control unit ECU). I would be also interested if there are in the heater housing unit also some sensors for max open/max closed flap positions since these would need to remain connected too in order to avoid errors.
