Heater blower IDEA!

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Heater blower IDEA!

Post by karlosantana »

Now then, big man has big thought!
So I have a D8, and the normal resistor is dead, however on the d8's the resistor is built into the motor and has no box with green plugs :( . So would it be possible to retrofit the d9 blower and resistor to a d8? Anyone heard of this? Could it be possible? you see my plans???
Cheers

I see your plans but there's an ecu there and I'm not sure if it'll like the change in loads. Still, you can't make it any worse than dead...

yep was worried bout that too. But it's dead may've just got another motor now so may as well just change it :D. it's still worth a shot eventually me finks :D. Actually considering taking all the electrical gubbins for the heating and stuff out a D9 then sticking them in my D8...should be interesting

Don't forget the BSI which the climate control panel needs to speak to... and the engine ECU which the BSI will need, and the replacement of every wiring harness in the car to accommodate the above, and the new door locks to go with the new key for the new ignition barrel, and the new ABS unit, the new fuseboxes, the new instrument cluster, the new sensors and actuators and so forth...

It's not a road you want to go along
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Errrm... 406executiveHDI... yours is a COM2000 from 2002 - it already has the full multiplex wiring setup... :cheesy:

I went from a non-COM2000 D9 saloon to a post-COM2000 D9 coupe. Other than a dodgy drivers' side seat heater and a problem with the cigarette lighter socket (probably just a fuse) there's nothing electrically wrong with my new car.

By contrast, the older car had one of its electric windows fail (the motor and both front electric window switch panels have been replaced, to no effect, so it's gotta be wiring), the silly switch in the centre console that gives you the "BRAKE FLUID LEVEL LOW" message needs swapped out, and the exterior temperature sensor needed replaced (I did eventually do that job).

Ive got a dodgy horn and a non demisting passenger side wing mirror.
Not bad really considering Ive heard all sorts of people saying pugs have dodgy electrics. Not my one obviously.Still, could be worse,I could have my next door neighbours brand new XF Jag that wont start and has been stuck in his drive for 3 days....
