Wheel Alignment issue?

Post by djheath »

Just want to check something.

If I let go of the steering wheel on my 406, it naturally flings to an 11 o'clock position and the car pulls to the left. I have to hold the wheel at a bit of an opposite angle to keep the car straight and I can feel resistance in the steering.

This is just a tracking problem and I just need get the front wheels aligned don't I? It's nothing else like steering rack etc on the gyp?!

Thanks.

David.

Just pulls. Drives great and no unusual sounds.

Thank for the reply.

ye just get your tracking done, it doesnt cost much,

it could be a dodgy tyre if it still does it after, but very much doubt it being a tyre

Check your tyre pressures too as they can cause this sort of problem in extreme cases. Most likely the tracking though.

Yep, tyres are relatively new and pressures checked at the very least each month, so happy that it is most likely alignment. Gonna get it done this friday.

Thanks,

Hmm ok, just had the alignment checked and the garage can't find anything wrong with it! With the steering wheel set straight, the wheels are spot on they say. They have swapped the front wheels over side to side to see if it pulls the other way now, but it is still the same.

It's not bad, but it is a bit annoying having to drive with the steering wheel slight pointing left and it definitely pulling to the curb when you let go of the wheel! Pulling the wheel straight ahead causes the car to pull to the right! Strange!

The print out from the wheel alignment said the following:
Front Left: 0.02
Front Right: 0.01
Rear Left: 0.13
Rear Right: 0.08

With, printed on the print out the required level is dictated as:
Front: 0.02
Rear: 0.21

Any ideas? Think I will just have to live with it!

i have a slight pull to the left as well,

its only since i had a michelin tyre fitted on the front passangers side

tracking is fine had that done, its definately the tyre that causes it to pull to the left,,

it doesnt bother me cos i know its the tyre, when that wears down i will get another fitted and it should be ok
