wiring diagram

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

I can have a go at a livewire diagram when im at my old computer, or else someone may be able to string together a few words well enough to explain it as good as a diagram

Wiring diagrams is something we seriously lack. We can get to look at them but it costs money and I don't even know how useful they are. On the com2000 I don't even know what happens when you pull the stick, is it a normal analogue signal (+12v) that goes to the motor with a feed into the BSI for the wipers, or is it all digital? It's a mystery until the feed comes out under the wing :(

What I have noticed is on my 2003-built car there is no fuse position for the washers & wipers in the handbook. However I did spot some tiny fuses on the side of the fuse panel and some more on the front edge of the BSI. I'm not sure if yours is the same (seems likely) so I'm wondering if it would be worth checking these too. It might be an idea to let the car sit for a while before you start meddling...

It's the car's own cpu which controls a lot of the functions on the car. Have a pdf http://www.autodiagnos.com/fileadmin/as ... mplete.pdf

Btw people, if you think BSI failures on Renaults are amusing, Fiat ones catch on fire

Gah, scratch that, I forgot about the fuse panel under the bonnet  I'd still have a look at those fuses if the fuses under the bonnet are ok (they must do something...)

Ive took the back seat out of my apparently multiplexed d9 and theres enough wires still there for me to ask how many more wires did pre multiplex d9s have how did they even fit in the car.

The fuse for the washers is in the fuse box under the bonnet....it's 10amp...red. Can't remember which one it is, but on my 406 it blew a couple of times when my wife worked the washers with a frozen motor.

I don't know why it is but I keep forgetting the fuse panel under the bonnet. I guess it's either because the 406s are the only cars I've ever had complicated enough to need two  I've never had to deal with it or senility beckons.

Anyway, it's fuse 14 on 2002-onwards cars, you never know your luck.

Still looking at these schematics, it does seem to exit the com2000 as data (CAR1), then it's straight into the BSI. The fuse panel itself seems to have a processor (eh?) and from the fuse panel into cable 10 PR into the wing. If you can find it, is there any power at the fuse? There are also some relays...

I can confirm that, (having tried once too often to see if they'd thawed this morning).

So, if you've been a numpty too and don't have a spare either, rob one of the main beam fuses, (11 & 12), till you get some. :supafrisk:

under bonnet fuse box, its not odd my old merc had all the fuses located under the bonnet and they were proper retro fuses like the ones in plugs.
