Ok but youve got the bells and whistles model, theres not many of them out there. My uncles 04 golf is called 'Special Edition' and i think what vw did was strip out all the useful extras, theres not even remote central locking, electric mirrors, electric windows, or a/c it amazes me how spartan it is inside. Wheras from what i can understand end of the mill 406s seemed to have been better specced with white dials, chrome handles, silver dashes, and sat nav.

Welly wrote:Cheers Jasper, I know about the oil thing on Diesels - weird though as it sounds like the eolys fluid gets into the sump :?
No it's fuel - during a regen it injects fuel during the exhaust stroke, so it'll burn in the cat & give off enough heat to incinerate the eolys-laden soot in what can best be described as a horizontal chimney fire.

Unfortunately, on the volvo, a proportion of this 'extra' diesel winds up in the sump.

(Never mind - if there's any adverse publicity, they're going to rename it 'Zone 5 Afterburner')

2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Drive a sorted Volvo 240 - they hang the tail out quite nicely if provoked!

My mate has one (wagon) with around 400,000km on the clock - thing is unbreakable. One of the better built cars of the modern era!

A 240, thats one of them volvos that were designed on an etch a sketch before the wheel had been invented. But still i did like its rather square styling. But were old volvos really reliable, my dad said back in the day a volvo was considered a luxury car, but he also said there was some that had renault engines and were a mechanical disaster.

That would of been the 2.8/9 PRV engine - Twas a V6 fitted to the 604, 605, R25 and Volvo 268 etc etc...

My dad said it was trouble. But then he was driving a datsun sunny so everything would have been trouble compared to it. Apart from the bodywork issue.
