dipping headlights, strange!

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

dipping headlights, strange!

Post by lozz »

anyone else had this, > (406 d9 hdi 99 )
when the cars idling at traffic lights etc, the headlights go dim then all of a sudden go bright again,
also the heater blower goes slower,

couid this be the alternator failing or battery going abit down,

car as always been a good starter,
and its always done this light dimming thing
any ideas, ?

thanks,

Mine go dim a few times when the engine's cold. The D8 used to wave its headlamps up and down

Mine does this, despite changing the alternator a couple of years ago (shot bearings).
When the aircon kicks in and out it dims everything because it's drawing more current; it seems the alternator is only giving out full charge at 1300-1400rpm.

inotice it more when the heater blower is on as you can hear the fan slow down when the lights do the diming thing,
thus why ifind it strange its the 1st car ive had that does this, :(
