Can someone answer my interior questions!

Post by Floodys »

Ive got a 1999 estate , I think it's a D8? Got a few questions od like answered by so one in the know out there!

Between a D8 and a D9 are there only 2 styles of dashboard? I.e my car has a digital display for temp, radio stations should come up on it I think? Clock is next to clocks etc, I understand there are differences in seats etc, just want to know dash difference etc! ( basically so when I'm talking/posting about car I know if it's d8 or 9!

On the subject of the display, it currently reads outside temp, now, it hasn't got a Peugeot radio in the car, would that stop the mpg, average fuel consumption display etc if the radio not connected? Also, I'm wondering if the previous wont work maybe due to the button on the end of the wiper stalk? Do these fail often or is it more likely to be the display itself? I do notice that the button wont push all the way in like say the horn button (looks this same)

On the last one, I have a water leak in the car, I have read a few threads on leaks and I think I may have a prob with the rear lights? The thread I read did mention leaking lights, would this apply to estate too? Also, I have the wet under the rear seats, is this likelynto be the door rubbers?

Many thanks

If your clock is next to the clocks, you have a D8. You would also have a body coloured grill (as opposed to the honeycomb on my D9):

& your seats would have a u shape on the base rather than 2 straight lines separating the sides from the middle - unless you have the Executive which still has the U shape in all models.

My car (D9) has the hazard light switch where your clock is :

As far as I know the lack of a Peugeot radio shouldn't affect the trip computer functions on the display.

Spot on cheers waue, I've got a D8 then! Think the repeaters on the wing are different too and the aerial!

Don't know about the aerial, but the repeaters are. Mine are housed in the wing whereas D8 has them in the rubbing strip. Another subtle difference is at the rear where the black strip on the bottom of the tailgate has a chrome strip on D9s, but is plain black on a D8.

Apart from later cars...

The D8s diesels didn't have many functions on the mfd, mine just had the outside temperature display. It looked like a button on the end of the wiper stalk but didn't move, it also lacked the two arrows pointing inwards near the end.

Water ingress is possibly door seals or could be the door water barriers have had Edward Scissorhands at them. My D8 also had the two bungs under the rear bench come out & let water in.

Cheers for the replies! Re the display, how would I know if I only have temp or have the other functions? I have a button as I said earlier! But stiff! I know temp works ok but nothing else comes up!

The button on the stalk feels like it's stiff to move, but on a D8 has no functionality
I bought a brand new one with the 2 arrows (looks like a rewind symbol ) off the bay for £25 delivered
Still doesn't work, but doesn't mean i'm not going to try and getting it working as will require some extra wiring to sort

the d9 also has a thing when you flick back the light stalk for full beam after you turn off the engine the headlights turn on for a minuite.
A recent discoverey and im enjoying this new feature, i thought id have to add it some time in the future.

are your lights steamed up inside ? best thing to do is remove the carpet from the boot and check for water marks

water usually leaves a path were its run you will see it if you look close on the floor, dont wipe it clean yet tho,

follow it and trace were it came from

yip the boot leaks garys was the bumper bolts, mine was the rear light seal, but with some stuff called stixall which is a sticky sealant, or the stuff gary used which was probably better its best to do both places. And if its leaking via the doors, get new sealing sheets, ive tried fixing the sheets but its not woth a shite (well its working quite well at sealing but the tape rattle/creaks and im fussy about noises), so ill be buying a new set.

Btw they're talking about saloons but there's always the possibility this stuff could apply to an estate.

On the subject of the leak, has anyone with a estate had a leak from the roof rails? I don't appear to have a leak in side from them but did notice when I graves one of them it moved a bit at the middle fixing, can they be tightened? Guess it would be a right job as roof lining down!!!!
