From my drive back from chester to the ferry all i can remember seeing was a sign welcome to wales, and the time my uncles car was coming home manchester to stranrar i remember seeing a sign saying welcome to scotland. Its nice to be welcomed, everytime i drive down into the south of ireland the only sign i notice is 'SPEED IS IN KM/H', then a teeney weeney sign saying faltie, going back up into the north theres even less to welcome you.
