Bloody hell, look at the molten aluminium from the a/c conny - that puts it at at least 600deg C

The fire must have found a fuel supply somehow :? typical french electrics probably enabled the lift pump to run throughout

Well, there are the pics. I had to shovel snow onto the battery and engine, cos they were still smoking as the Firebrigade left. The interior is still whole, and in bloody good condition too. I wanted it for my Mini, but the insurance says they will take the whole car away and pay out. Im sneaking the auto-dip rear view mirror out for the Mini though!! :P
I also lynched the clarion changer, cos my CD's are stuck inside, as well as the brand new spare wheel.

Strip out all the good parts before the insurance company takes it away.
Is there any lesson us remaining multiplexed 406 owners might learn from this, is there a specific thing to check incase a fire occurs, which i suppose is worse than the odd fault light and a crazy bsi.

Check you had the recall done (I think Pug should hold records for the dangerous stuff)

Looks like anything from July 2001 but I reckon they'd have fixed the problem by the time of the recall in May 2003 (I'd still like to know how to check though, but I know for a fact Pug have no records for my car since selling it :frown: )

Anyone that knows for sure, see if you can spot what marks the mechanics left on the affected part to say it's been done (e.g. I know mine's had the MAF/TPS earth mod 'cos there's some white paint on it)

Was she FMWC Monaco / Paina Blue?

If so, is the rear nearside door salvagable?

is there official recalls on servicebox, to see what recalls our cars should have had, the only one i can understand in my cars paperwork is the one for the boot lock, apparently it was easy to break into. On the subject of recalls, i worked in a citroen dealers for work experience, and while doing paperwork, i learnt that reacalls happen all the time, just as normal part of servicing, even with the vw van garage beside it the recalls just happen in the normal dealer servicing. Nothing abnormal about them, except when its a toyota.

It was that solstice moon that did it. My 406 is also awaiting the crusher - RIP.

It has been a very bad day today.

The RAC guy diagnosed valve hits piston syndrome this afternoon. I can't afford to have the engine refurbished. If anyone needs a brand new alternator for a 1.9 diesel 1997 model it's there for the taking. It's parked at Bryn Cars next to the MOT garage in Bryn near Wigan. If anyone turns up, say Stuart sent you and quote my phone number 07903577967 Guy's name is Mike.
best regards
