Run Lock

Post by FarmerPug »

I seen this feature in my dads Rapid Response Veichle which is a skoda octavia scout with ambulance stuff all over it, its called run lock. He left the car running and come up to the house, and i said dont you care about someone stealing it, he said park it round the back then, i got, but there was no key, so the steering locked, and i put the handbrake down and the engine just cut out. Now that is a nifty feature. And not actually an option on the skoda but controlled through the ambulance ecu thingy which takes control over the skodas ecu.

The police and fire vehicles we service do this. Its so they can leave the engine running to power all the electrical stuff and leave the vehicle unatended. Clever idea, but never played with it so not sure how it works.

The skoda is loaded full of extra electrics, so but my dad complains about it oversteering a lot, though he says the overall snow traction is very good with the 4x4 system.

ah see it may seem like a problem but the peugeot has added this new feature.
I have to admit it but my old merc wouldnt turn off itself by the key at first i shat myself because it was an auto and i couldnt just kill it by dumping the clutch in 5th gear. But luckily there was a thing in the engine bay saying STOP that had to be pushed to kill the engine. Apparently the merc used a vacuum servo to turn off and mine had been removed.

Clifford make an alarm that does that as well to fit to your car but i think its only a job for the professionals

on a cold -12 morning when you wake up you can go to the front door of your home and press a button on the remote key fob

the engine will start keeping the car fully locked and alarm still on

set all your heaters to max the night before so when the car starts they will be set ready to demist all windows while you have a nice cup of tea and your porridge

dam thats expensive, but not as expensive as kitting a skoda scout into the ambulance gear, which really does look class with the lights and green reflective stuff, the interiors a bit of a shambles, theres all the solid german stuff then a collosal amount of crudely added stuff 3 sat nav screens, a cb radio of some sort and a big button pad for all these extra features and the lights. I would actually say that the skoda scout is a nicely made, solid, good looking car. With the only downside being exceptionally hard seats, and a slightly colourless interior.

These days Škodas are VWs so I'm not surprised the interior is suited to those with massive posteriors.
For 440 quid I think I can stagger out into the snow and start the car myself! :frown: Christ, one of those Kenlow preheater things is half that and doesn't waste fuel.

they are a clever option to add to any car with real value

if you bought a car for £20k a £500 alarm would be no problem

You guys do realise the locks still work with the engine running? Not the remote mind, I tried that once...
