Hi I have a 2001 406 with 235000 miles,was at 4500 revs and lost power, and would not exceed 2800 revs. when engine is cool ,(in neutral),I can get into high revs again but with lots of black smoke,then when driving it will not exceed 2800 revs again. Engine light came on, with anti-pollution system defective, auto electician pluged it in and over-boost demand fault came up, he felt the large hose that goes to the intercooler, and the is no pressure on high revs, he diagnosed turbo.Have changed turbo but no change in problem, have changed maf sensor as well.
Any help appreciated.

Hi there!
What type of HDi engine does your 406 have - 2.0 HDi (90 HP), 2.0 HDi (110 HP), or 2.2 HDi (136 HP)?
If it's the 2.2 HDi, then you may have some kind of issue with the particulate filter (FAP). I'm not a diesel man myself, but I hear about these things causing folks trouble. If you do have one and it turns out to be the source of the problem, it is possible to do away with the particulate filter altogether.
