Electric wing mirrors

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Electric wing mirrors

Post by raccoon »

Hi everyone, looking on the forum I see that all mirrors on the 406HDi D9 are electric. My car is a 1999/2000 on a V reg. It has the switch on my door for altering the mirror positions but it does not work. My question is "are they all electric operated mirrors" and if so I think there must be something wrong on mine cos they dont work, either of them. Looking in my manual I cannot see what fuse is used to supply the power. Does anyone know how to check them. I cannot see that both mirrors will of broken down at the same time. They have never worked while I have had the car which is a year and six months.
Thanks for any help.

check all the fuses, the fuse diagram i think is just a nice drawing rather than a purposeful diagram, other than that the electric mirror button could be at fault and its a whole unit, ie it includes the window switches, so take it out, check its not loose, make sure the plugs are all in right and then see what happens. If its still broke after that say so and someone will help.

This could be the switch in the drivers doorcard that selects which side you want to adjust. I'm not sure of the setup on a D9 but this has given me grief in the past.

The adjustment for both ways does not work at all. This made me think of the fuse. Its easy to remove the switch from the door so will try that because I looked at all the fuses today and they were all ok. I finish my night shift today so will have a bit more time in the next couple days to check out what you all have said. I will post back with results.

The question I was asking was, 'Have you rotated the switch to select the mirror that you want to adjust?

A guy at work had the same problem, and was amazed when I got in and found no problem with the control!

Hi stealthe, sorry for the delay in replying, work all night sleep all day. Yes I tried it both ways with the switch button turned to the left and right. I have however today got some time and found that there is power to the switch. there it stops though, so I guess the switch is knackered. I have had my muti meter on the switch and nothing seems to go through it so now I will get a new one and put that in.

You could hot wire it temporarily to set the mirrors correctly

if the whole switch thing is loose, its a press fit thing, needs to be tight for all the connections to work right

on mine the passenger side is the one that wont work, my first thought was " just like the 306 , here we go again" exposing where the wires go through the to the door and checking for broken wires , but seeing this post I think I`ll check the switch connections first .
