Sounds like the central locking actuator has stuck. See if you can get the door card off and flick it with a screwdriver; does the lock operate on that door when you flick it manually?

Yeah the deadlock used to sieze on the rear passenger door on my D8, I used to just lock / unlock the car repeatedly until it released (sometimes took lots and lots of tries). Eventually I just stopped deadlocking it  .

my grampas polo has the same problem (yes a german car has a fault) the back door is locked, and because vw are tits the snib in its locked position sits flush with the surroundings so theres no point in pulling it, and because its down neither of the 2 handles work, and its not picking up the signal when the cars unlocked. I really dont know where to start if the doors not opening.

i was at my local council tip last week just getting rid of excess xmas cardboard and rubbish i left the car running because it was only going to take a few seconds, the doors were closed and again the engine was running then i heard them lock,i thought oh sh*t,and indeed they were locked.i dont know if its a fault or just purely the outside temp which was -6,i contacted the breakdown service who said it would be over an hour,i had a car which was running but locked blocking the road and i was freezing my nuts of,i borrowed a guys hammer, smashed the rear quarter passenger window, lowered the window got my son to climb in and get keys out of ignition to unlock doors,i then rang auto glass and had it replaced for a silly amount of £133.00,so the lessons learned are always take your keys out and make sure you are covered with fully comp.

ah yes the keys locking while running issue, a quarter windows always the best one to smash if you need to get in, its the least important window and cheapest to replace. But the bleeper that tells you to take the key out usually makes me do that.

sorry have to disagree with you
if you have to bust a window its much better to bust the large side window because
a.......they are broken more often so they are more readliey avaliable so normally cheaper
b......removing/replacing the quarter window is more involed eg you have to remove the strip that seprates the windows and sometimes you have to remove the side window to replace it anyway.

but im assuming the member who has broke his window owns an estate, in an estate the rear window behind the door which im probably incorrectly calling the quarter one is the best to smash. Actually come to think of it on a saloon its probably easiest to bust open the boot and climb through the back seats.
Whatever one may be the easiest, i dont think the sunroof, or front windscreen will ever be the easiest ways to get in.

Quarter windows are harder to break & much harder to replace. Been there, got the scars :frown:

the coat hanger trick, ive never tried it but its probably possible as the 406s door controls are all controled by metal bars and not cables.

You really don't want to break that window in a 406 estate, first step in replacing that one is "remove head lining" :frown: . A quarter window is the small triangular one that's part of the rear door. It's assumed that it'll be cheapest to replace ('cos it's small) and easiest to change ('cos it doesn't move), neither of which are necessarily right!
