electrical i think

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

electrical i think

Post by g7vhj »

Not sure if this should be in here or engine posts.
I need help again
About 3 weeks ago i was driving to my local market and the engine died (without warning) never to restart, After waiting ages for the RACman to tow me home he did a few of the usual tests (fuses, battery)etc and also checked for fuel pump and spark at the plugs.
There was and still is no spark at the plugs and suggested that it was the double relay next to the engine managment unit, This was duly replaced £41 from pug dealer and with fingers crossed i hoped it would work alas it didn't.
should have said 2 litre petrol on a p plate.
any suggestions would be very welcome as i am finding the wifes Perodua nippa a bit small.
Oh and where would i find the coil pack as there is power getting there but nothing coming out immobilizer is ok and working.
regards Pete

it couid be a number of things,
you wouid be best having a diagnostic done on the car or get a handheld code reader on it,
and see if any fault codes flagup,

its hard to guess upon :(

no spark couid be :
Tdc sensor,
crank sensor,
Faulty coil pack or wiring fault,

There is a switch by the left hand strut thats about 2 cms square with a rubber cover on it but i assumed that was something to do with the alarm system.
I have checked that i am getting above 1 volt A.C on the sensor mentioned in the "Knowledge base" but it still won't start.
I haven't checked the steeper motor as i wasn't having any rough running issues, the only other concern i had with the engine was a delay when lifting the foot of the accelerator and the engine actually responding to it ( about 2 secs) but that could be normal for all i know.
Regards Pete

Almost getting to the point of getting it to a garage now.

Thanks Steve for the help, I realise now that it is a fuel cut off Switch.
Fuel is getting through but according to the rac man there is nothing coming out of the coil but there is power getting in.
Anyone in the Forest of Dean area willing to take a look?

Just another quick question,
Does anyone elses ENGINE AUTO DIAGNOSTICS WARNING LIGHT come on when the key is put in the ignition to start the car or is it just mine?
I can't say that i noticed the light before it broke down and have only just noticed it now.
Hopefully diagnostics will be done today so fingers crossed it will be going soon.

I have a picture of an engine, which I suppose is the same, it comes on with all the lights (glowplug, abs etc,) when I turn the ignition to run, it goes out last just after the engine's started.
