Tester - Breaking My 2.1TD

Post by HimBigChief »

With the cambelt knackered and a new car now sourced, I think I'm going to end up breaking my 406 pictured below. :( Other than the timing belt going, the car is pretty much mint, save for a few marks here and there, I will mention these when selling. I also have a few other spares and bits and pieces which I have collected over the couple of years of 406 ownership which I am thinking of selling. I have put a list below of bits and pieces, although there will be more and anything anyone wants they can ask for. All prices are negotiable and plus P&P or collection of course. All bits will be located in rural Northumberland, NE48 if you fancy a nice country drive.

I am just building up a wishlist here and as soon as I get the car back home I will start taking it to bits and taking monies and posting out / arranging collection.

All lower panels in black, including glovebox, this lot were a nightmare to source! - £40 - Carlb
Speedo control box, fits behind glovebox for ML5T boxed cars - £20
All other interior bits and pieces will also be available, just ask

Engine:

4 x Brand new still boxed glowplugs - £10
12 month old radiator and bottom hose- £50, £150+ when new
All other engine and gearbox bits and pieces will also be available, just ask

Such a shame as I was just getting the car to where I wanted it :( , but what with the cambelt, a new windscreen, MOT due next week it's just not worth me throwing more money at the car and we also NEED 2 cars, so I've had to bite the bullet and get a 306 HDi estate as a temporary runabout. Anyway, my loss is your gain, so pick what you want and if what you're after isn't on the list, just reply on here or drop me a PM and we can discuss more.

Cheers

James

I'd be interested in the splitter. How did you fix it & what sort of condition is the bottom of it in? Do you ever have problems with speed bumps etc with them?

Thats too good to break, surely you can get another engine cheap ish, even a 1.9TD and then take advantage of the fuel saving by using Veg?

I could fix the engine I reckon as it's probably just rockers and followers that'll be buggered, but it also needs a windscreen, track rod end, proper rear lights, etc, etc and the MOT is due, so it's gonna be cheaper for me to get something else and start again. If I can't get shot of a lot of the bits, then I may think about fixing it or selling it and let someone else have a go. It's difficult getting hold of enough veg oil and filtering it to make running it worth while. I do at least 400miles a week, so need a hell of a lot of oil on a regular/weekly basis and it's just nigh on impossible to get hold of in those sort of quantities round here.

The splitter is just screwed to the bottom of the bumper using quite a few screws to get it sat right. There are marks/scrapes on the bottom of it, but barely noticeable and when you bumper snot the splitter it looks like new. It does catch on some speed humps, but it's rubber so it flexes and moves out of the way anyway. It is very flexible and has a lot of up/down and backwards/forwards movement.

Hi, i would be interested in a few things, head light covers, fog lights & covers, wind deflectors, the executive rear parcel shelf, glove box and lower trims in black, and the spoiler. If you decide to break.
Thanks Carl.

Hmm, you got me thinking now. Collection's not a problem as we have access to both a 7.5T and 18T wagon. Shame I've put the deposit down on the HDI, although I can always sell it on. Also I pretty much live on a farm, so getting hold of a container shouldn't be much of an issue either! Hmm, should I just Bosch pump convert this one and do this? That said, I'm sure it wouldn't run very well in -18C which I saw on the display 3 times last month...

No, must resist!

Mine was running fine at -12 with 10% petrol mixed in. At -18, maybe add 15% Petrol.

You would prob save over £3k a year on fuel alone.

I'm updating the list with the first people to put their names against bits. If the first sale falls through, then I will move to second person to ask. Hence why some people have asked for bits but haven't had their name put against items.

Thanks HBC. If you're willing to post, PM me the details to send payment for the splitter & I'll sort it out for you.

If you'd rather not though, you're a bit of a way for me to drive so would let the next man step up (as I believe Gary was planning on driving up anyway).
