auto lights

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

auto lights

Post by grasmere59 »

Would this be right,i have a 2002 hdi 110 Rapier estate and when the lights are set to auto operation they come on when the wipers have been on for a bit,i thought it might be rain on the screen confusing the light sensor which i assume is by the rain sensor.I tried it today with running the wipers on a dry screen and the lights came on,i'm not complaining as it seems a good idea just wondered if this is as they should work?

The auto lights should come on when it's dark.

Personally I think the auto headlights are a curse.

I've turned them off on our 407 because I've changed 6 headlight bulbs so far since october.

They never came on with the wipers but whenever the weather was dull or going through a tree-lined road or in heavy rain they would come on.

Discovered something interesting about auto lights via someone over at the Coupe Club...

When you switch on the auto light feature, the car takes a reading of how light it is outside, and remembers that this amount of light is the point at which it will activate the lights in future. So, if you find your auto lights not coming on when it's getting dark, it's because it is remembering the wrong light level. Switch the auto lights off, and then switch it on again when the light falls to the level you'd like the lights to come on at.

As I said, that's just what I heard; not sure how true it is, as I turned auto lights off; I prefer to keep control over my car's lighting (just a personal preference).

i use the auto lights all the time, or dont as the case might be because i rarely touch the lights, i thought turning on the lights when it rains is just a logical decision for the car to make. Pre com2000 cars did have a sensor up by the mirror, that looks a bit like the sensor i have up by my mirror only mine is more rounded.

they are activated by the button on the end of the indicator stalk, the mfd says automatic lighting active, and you get the sound similar to that sound asking the air hostess to come.
