i havent looked at mine, but the car got a powerhose today, not a proper car wash but a blast of high pressure water which made the light invisible, i shall need to look at in the darkness.

My light came on faintly when i braked and the pads were only 3 months old,it was worse when it rained and when i eventually took the wheel off i found that one of the sensor wires had just been rubbing on the inside of the wheel rim and had exposed the inner core of the wire hence the light coming on,a quick snip with the pliers and no more sensor wire and no more light! :)

do i need the wear sensor, surely the sign of squealing and ineffective brakes is better than a light.

There are wear sensors on both sides so as long as you don't have sticky calipers the pads should wear evenly on both sides so when the other side is down and the light comes on they all should need replacing,my 5 series BMW has only sensors on 1 side, when i think back over the years only a handful of my cars had sensors and it never gave me any trouble and to be honest the ones with sensors had the pads changed before the light came on,i find if they are getting low it's normally picked up at the mot.

Brake light was lighting up sometimes back when I had the leaky master pump, that is as a brake fluid level warning.
