Child Seat problem....

Post by PADDY »

I've not long had my Pug 406 and with the people carrier I had before, squeezing 2 booster seats and a toddler car seat into the back seats was never a problem. It's not so bad when it's just me, the two kids (6 & 7) and the toddler (2) in the car as my eldest can sit in the front passenger seat. It's mainly at weekends when we all go out, girlfriend included.

I once managed to put the toddler seat in the middle with the two boosters either side but belting up the kids in the boosters was hard work (no room) and they were both at a slight angle as opposed to being flat back against the seat.

Does anyone else have this problem? Can I get narrower boosters?

I recently had a full baby seat,a booster and a rear passenger in mine. The rear passenger sat behind the front passenger struggled to get their seatbelt clipped in.

i dont think putting the babyseat in the middle is a good idea

do your 6 and 7 year olds really need boosters ? maybe put the 7 year old in the middle with just the seatbelt and the 6 year old at the side on a booster seat

i have a 5 and 6 year old and they dont use boosters ,,

Our toddler seat is a full one with base - similar to: this.

It's a nightmare, because up until May last year, you could get away with the third child using the adult belt without a booster, which would've worked out not so bad - but the law changed and now requires all three children to be in the appropriate seats/boosters.

D'you reckon I could get away with my eldest sitting on a folded-up pillow?

well my 5 and 6 year old dont use boosters . ive had the law at the side of me waving to the kids

surely they would have said something ?

i think they are safe on the normal seat with the seatbelt on

as long as the seat belt goes over them correctly they should be fine

The need for a booster seat goes off the childs height ,
some police wont blink an eye at seeing a child withought one but there is always one thats had an Argument with his mrs before going to work and wouid be Hawk eye ,

its all down too the osifer at the endof the day wether he chooses to book people for it or not, :(

iwas stopped once for it and was told to drive straight to Kwik-fit and buy one he Escorted me there and watched me buy one then he went on his way,

sitting in between 2 child seats in the back of a car is probably one of the worst places ive ever sat, except for the middle of the back of a mini with two peoples elbows implanted into my rib cage.

Hmmm, the law is rather ambiguous in this regard, therefore open to interpretation. Which is absolutely wrong, in my book. It should be unambiguous and clear-cut.

See this amendment of May 2009:

•Where seat belts are provided, the number of people carried in the rear of vehicles may not exceed the number of seats available fitted with seat belts or child restraints (to apply from May 2009).

How would you interpret that? To me, it says that you can't have any more kids than there are child seats with adult belts in the rear. SO..... Does that mean that since a pug will only fit (in my case) a full baby/toddler sit with inseparable base and one booster comfortably, a third may not travel? Previously, the law was that it was permissible for the third child to travel using an "adult" seatbelt in the rear if having two seats made it impossible for a third.

Who to believe, who to consult??

Iknow what you mean mate,
its a night mare,

 Get some Polystyrene blocks thick stuff and make your own booster seats to the size you need them,
easy to get some material and cover them afterwards,

ihad all this faffing about with car seats and booster seats in the End iwent out and bought a Mpv which was a money pitt,
im glad ive gone back too a car,

no more kids for me idont want any more booster seats

i had to do babysitting for my uncle, that meant a pair of child seats in the back, i didnt like the idea of putting them straight on the leather in case they left a permanent crease. Other than that there is the issue with children kicking the back of the front seats. Cream leather interiors and children are a combination that does not work.
