Biodiesel in HDi

Post by rwb »

apparently so but I'm not sure I believe them.

biodiesel near work is 115p/litre. I tried about 40l of it in 2008 and it wasn't good. Lost power. Couldn't get above 40mph on flat motorway. Sometimes went into limp home mode. Gradually resolved itself as I kept topping it up with normal diesel so the ratio of biodiesel decreased.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

I would think you are right to be very cautious about this. I looked at this and decided not to chance it on my nice economical HDI 110. When you have an engine thats done lots of miles, I don't feel like changing its fuel. How much per year would 10 pence per litre save you?

Bio Diesel will eat seals. Infact on the XUD's you can run Veg oil on standard seals and unless they are old or perished you won't have an issue. If you want to run Bio Diesel on an XUD it will eat into the rubber seals and you have to buy a special seal kit. HDi's are only designed to run a maximum of 5% Bio diesel which is what you get in the pumps anyway. ANy more and you risk damaging hoses, seals, pumps etc etc

Stop speculating everyone, there is no reason why a HDi cannot run on 100% well made Bio B100.
Many people on http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/forum are running HDi's on 100% Bio without problems.

Yeah I don't see why they run rough, but you will eat seals for a pastime. The methanol content causes this.
You should really try get a sample of the bio diesel in a lucozade bottle or something and add a drop of water to it and shake it then leave it overnight. If it's cloudy the next morning the bio diesel is bad.
