problem with rear doors

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

problem with rear doors

Post by wolfman »

Hi guys new member here
Have a year 2000 peugeot 406 hdi which has both rear doors locked shut !!
The front doors open no problem, when i lock the car all the manuel door locks unlock as they should but only the fronts actually open.
You can here the door mechanism making a noise so im assuming something is trying to happen, but as they are firmly locked how the hell do you remove the door cards ( if this is possible without wrecking it all )
If someone can offer anyn help this would be very much apprpeciated

Thanx

If you get into the back seats via the front doors and some undignified clambering, are you able to open the rear doors from the inside?

Also, with all the doors shut, see if, while you're in the back seats, you can lock/unlock the doors using the "lock all the doors" lever on either of the rear doors.

You can take the door cards off on the inside with the doors closed, but it's even more hassle than it is when the doors are open.

taking them off with the doors on is a proper hassle, but not as bad as youd think, just put the front seats up as far as they go, undo the leccy switch, undo the bolts, take out the puddle light, remove the door handle surround unclip everything which is the hard bit and slide it all upwards, which is also the hard bit.

the deadlocks, thats the point of them they cant be unlocked, unless your car has the button between the two seats that might have something to do with the deadlocks.

only way is too take the door panels off and look at the Mech for the locks and ping the lever so it releases the lock,
You may have Abroken wire in one of the Door looms causing the central locking to Dead-lock on the rear doors -so it might be worth checking the wires after you have got the rear doors too open,

Where are you located ?
if your close to manchester iwill have a go at opening the doors for you if that wouid help,

Hi,

Rear doors will not unlock from inside or outside.

Could you tell me please if you found a solution to this problem, or anyone has any ideas.

My 2000 LX 110 HDI Family Estate has the same problem.

I have so far removed all the door panels looking for any obvious problems, I've sprayed WD40 in and around the locks and connectors, checked the multiplugs under the carpet at the driver side footwell (all very clean and dry, unplugged, replugged each a few times for good measure), checked fuses etc, tried to reset the key fob, reset the BSI using the correct procedure (any time I have disconnected / reconnected the battery). All rods and linkages are free and move freely at the locks as they should when operated, but cannot be doing anything within the locks themselves. From reading stories online I know that the last resort is to smash into them to get to the mechanism inside.

When I lock the doors using the fob remotely the back doors lock but not the fronts, when locking with the key in the driver/passenger door I can hear and see the back doors locking and the door that the key is in, but not the other front door.
I can only unlock the doors that the key is in (mechanically), the other doors stay locked. Nothing unlocks remotely.

When locking I hear the solenoids operating, but no sound when trying to unlock (remotely or key in door). It looks to me that the 'unlock' circuit is not receiving the signal / electrical power to unlock (BSI not getting the signal to unlock or getting the signal but not forwarding the electrical signal to the doors???). Only reason I can unlock the fronts and tailgate is because it's mechanically on the key.

I have thought about getting two locks from a breakers yard and plugging them in to see if they work. If they do work and lock / unlock then one (or both of my locks) faulty?! and problem solved. If not then I think the problem has to be the key fob or BSI / relay?!

Is there a relay for the unlock circuit that can be replaced?

Because of this I cannot MOT the car and can't use it for now :(

Sorry it's a bit long winded but just trying to give as much info as I can.

Any input much appreciated.

Regards & Thanks,

Stevie.

did you manage to sort this mate? I have a similar problem with front passenger door. When it's locked it thinks it's open. Can't lock car at all without alarm going off and all interior lights coming on.
