Engine problem.

Post by Automan »

I have this intermittent problem with my 406. When it first starts on a cold or damp day, it sometimes sounds like a Subaru, that kinda three and a half cylinder sound and if I let the revs drop, it stalls and sounds like it is compressing a pint of petrol on trying to restart it. If I rev it up and keep the revs around 2000 it clears as it warms up. Now, here's the tricky bit, my lad reckons it may be the air temp sensor that's at fault. Is it the same one that shows the outside air temp on the display in the car? Because mine has been showing -30 on the warmest days recently.
I hate modern cars, give me a set of points and a condenser any time.

It's nothing to do with the outside air temperature thingy. It might help to know which engine you have :cheesy:

the external temp display is unrelated to the engine, and whats wrong with a subaru start a legacy up and you wont know its on.

It couid be Afaulty M.a.f,
or a Temp sensor faulty giving the E.c.u a wrong reading and Flooding it from cold start,
as a Guess, ^

A Plug in with a code reader Might be the Best option for this ,

Ah well, it's bound for the scrapyard! Failed the MOT on the ABS, both sills pretty badly corroded, paintwork is perfect but hardly any metal behind it, it seems. Loks like too much money for repairs to be honest. Couple of other minor things as well but it could take the bill well over £500. Shame, because I love the car.
